After focusing on acting and being a mother for the last ten years, Hilary Duff is open to the possibility of returning to music. In a recent interview with Access Hollywood on Monday, December 4, Duff, who is 36, shared that she often thinks about making new music. However, she admitted that juggling motherhood has made it easier to prioritize acting jobs due to the predictable schedule. Duff acknowledged that she is currently immersed in her role as a mother, and finding a way to balance her two worlds remains a challenge.

Duff finds it challenging to balance making music with raising kids due to the unpredictable nature of the creative process. She has an 11-year-old son, Luca, with ex-husband Mike Comrie, and two daughters, Banks (5) and Mae (2), with husband Matthew Koma.

“Heading to the studio feels so unpredictable - maybe we'll achieve something today, maybe we won't,” Duff explained. “It doesn’t feel like a traditional job, but I know that it is.”

Despite feeling unsure at the moment, Duff expressed her belief that a day will come when she won't be able to resist the urge to return to music. She admitted, "I really do believe that I’ll just one day be like, ‘I have to do it,’" and speculated that a sudden pull towards music will ultimately lead to her comeback. Though she cautioned fans that her return likely isn't imminent, she expressed gratitude for those who still support her music.

Despite continuing to act steadily since becoming a mom in 2012, Duff has not released an album in almost ten years. Her fifth studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. was released in June 2015 and included the highly underrated single "Sparks."

Duff released Breathe In. Breathe Out. after another long break from music, as her previous album, Dignity, debuted in 2007.

In 2015, Duff commented on the varying styles of Breathe In. Breathe Out., attributing the diversity to the lengthy hiatus taken before its release. "The album has taken on a lot of different lives, which I guess is to be expected when you’ve taken such a big break," said Duff. "It is a little bit of electropop, a lot of it is just straightforward pop and some of it has gotten pretty dance-y, which is cool. Some songs still have a little bit of a folky side."

During the interview, she mentioned her acting career and being a parent as the reasons for her extended hiatus between albums. "I feel like I've rediscovered my passion again and it's reinvigorated me," she said. "It's all about finding the right balance between two demanding careers and being a mom, which is the most important role for me."
