Halo Infinite's December Update will introduce Firefight: King of the Hill on December 5, bringing the PvE survival mode to the game for the first time. In this mode, players will face waves of enemies in an attempt to capture and defend a hill, with up to four players able to team up in co-op matches. The new mode will feature matchmaking and a boss wave to defeat in order to win each round, providing an exciting and challenging experience for players. Technical designer Connor Kennelly provided a detailed overview of the mode in a recent blog post on Halo Waypoint, outlining the differences from the classic Firefight mode.
Matchmaking will involve five rounds, with players needing to win at least three to score three points. Losing a round occurs when enemies capture the hill or the entire team is wiped out. In Firefight: King of the Hill, respawns are on a longer timer with the option to revive teammates. The traditional life pool is available in custom games. Between rounds, players can refill ammo and acquire new weapons before a new hill spawns in a new location. Matches are expected to last 15 to 20 minutes without a set timer.
Skulls make a return, with a new "semi-random" Skull being added at the end of a round if players win the round and no one dies. This will start a streak, and new Skulls will continue to be added with each round won without any deaths. However, if someone does die, the most recent Skull will be disabled. The reason it is "semi-random" is because the game will add easier Skulls, such as Fog which disables the radar, before adding the more intense ones later on.
Firefight: King of the Hill will launch with a total of nine maps, five of which are already in Halo Infinite, three community-made maps, and the new map, House of Reckoning, will be launching as part of the December update. The full list of Firefight: King of the Hill maps is as follows:

Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of Halo Infinite, I am incredibly excited about the upcoming December update, which will introduce the new Firefight: King of the Hill mode. This mode will bring a thrilling twist to the classic Firefight Co-Op experience, as players battle it out in intense multiplayer matches to claim dominance over the battlefield. The addition of matchmaking and a boss wave to defeat in each round adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement to the mode, making it a must-play for fans of the series.
The return of Skulls in Firefight: King of the Hill is another welcome addition, as it allows players to customize their experience and increase the difficulty of the mode. The "semi-random" nature of the Skulls, with easier Skulls being added before more intense ones, ensures that the mode remains accessible to players of all skill levels while still providing a challenging experience for those who seek it.
Overall, I believe that the December update for Halo Infinite is a major step in the right direction for the game, and I can't wait to dive into the new Firefight: King of the Hill mode and experience all that it has to offer.
