Meri Brown expressed her profound sadness after the loss of her brother Adam, who bravely fought cancer. The 52-year-old Sister Wives celebrity took to Instagram on October 6 to reveal that her older sibling sadly passed away on October 5, having decided to discontinue chemotherapy treatment five weeks prior.
"We lost him just two months before his 55th birthday," Brown wrote, fondly reminiscing about their shared childhood. "Throughout the years, I have countless cherished memories with him because, well, siblings. However, there are also some not-so-pleasant moments, again, because, siblings."
Brown openly discussed her reaction when she discovered Adam's cancer was incurable and he had limited time left to live. "The news struck me like a heavy blow, and I felt a whirlwind of emotions." Following his passing, she admitted to feeling a deep sense of loneliness, as she is now the sole surviving member of their original four siblings.
My sister Teresa, who was younger than me, passed away from cancer in 2006. Our oldest brother Marc also lost his life to heart issues in 2015. And now, we have lost Adam to a different form of cancer," she shared. "This means that I am the only one left."
While technically it's not just me, as I have three younger sisters who share the same mother, and I also have siblings from my sister moms due to growing up in a polygamist family," mentioned the TLC personality.
Although not an only child, Meri admits that Adam's death has truly unsettled her. She contemplates whether the grief she feels is influenced by the fact that the four eldest children, who were born solely in California, are the only ones from their parents' pre-polygamous life.

"There has always been an indescribable quality to the original four, something unique and distinct. It's not that they are better or closer, just that they are different," she declared. "Perhaps one day I will unravel its mystery, or maybe I never will. Only time holds the answer."
Brown then humorously recounted the ongoing intellectual rivalry between herself and Adam, a memory she holds dear.
"Nevertheless, (although I am tempted to type 'irregardless' in tribute to him and our numerous debates about its validity) I shall persevere by embracing life, love, forgiveness, and reminiscence," she expressed. "The bond I shared with him has imparted numerous lessons upon me, and I am confident that it will continue to bestow its wisdom upon me. I remain receptive to these lessons and eagerly anticipate their arrival."
Brown concluded with conviction, "For the time being, I shall commemorate him with respect, benevolence, and affection. PS Adam, I have the final say. And that is REGARDLESS."
Brown and her three older siblings relocated from California to Utah with their parents during their childhood. During this time, their parents adopted the practice of polygamy, resulting in Brown having more than 20 siblings within their extended family.
When she turned 18, Meri was introduced to Kody Brown by one of her sisters, as they were both members of the same church. Meri and Kody, who is now 54 years old, got married in 1990 and later had their only child, Leon, who is now 28 years old. The Browns expanded their family by welcoming Christine Brown in 1993 and Janelle Brown in 1994. (Janelle, who is also 54 years old, was previously married to Meri's late brother Adam.)
Kody welcomed his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, into the family in 2010. After four years, he divorced Meri in order to legally marry Robyn and also become the adoptive parent of her three children from a previous marriage. While Kody maintained a spiritual bond with Meri, they confirmed in January that their romantic relationship had come to an end. Meri was the third wife to leave Kody, following Christine's departure in November 2021 and Janelle's separation in December 2022.
