June is set to be a jam-packed month for the gaming industry, with a slew of major events and releases on the horizon. Following the PlayStation Showcase in May, gamers can look forward to events such as the Xbox Games Showcase and Summer Game Fest. Titles like Final Fantasy 16 and Diablo 4 are also expected to make their debut. Additionally, subscription services like PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass will be offering new games to their users.
While it's difficult to predict which games will make their way to PS Plus, there is typically a discernible difference between titles that perform well on the platform and those that don't. For the PS Plus free games each month, variety and quality are key, while PS Plus Extra and Premium offerings place an emphasis on quantity. Though the PS Plus Extra and Premium games were strong in May, the free games did not meet expectations. As such, June needs to bring its A-game. Here are a few games that would likely be well-received on the platform, with hopes that they make an appearance soon, if not in June.
PS Plus Free Game for June 2023: Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
Multiplayer games have a unique advantage on PS Plus as they instantly create a community or enhance an existing one. However, multiplayer need not always be player versus player (PvP). The Borderlands games have previously been featured on PS Plus with great success, and it's high time that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands receives the same treatment. Although it was released just a year ago, its looter shooter elements, co-op gameplay, and overall franchise appeal make it an ideal addition to the service.

When it comes to selecting indie titles for PS Plus, striking the perfect balance can be challenging. Opting for something too obscure could result in it failing to garner the appeal necessary for a PS Plus title, but Death's Door would be an excellent choice. In this game, players take on the role of a crow who works as a Reaper, which is fitting enough, but the 3D isometric action-adventure game has received widespread acclaim and has been compared to beloved titles such as Zelda and Dark Souls. While many challenging indie games receive such comparisons, Death's Door undoubtedly lives up to them.
PS Plus subscribers will be thrilled to learn that June 2023's free game is none other than The Witcher 3.
The addition of The Witcher 3 to PS Plus would be a significant and well-received inclusion, particularly with its enhancements for PS5. While CD Projekt Red titles have not historically been featured on the service, June would be an opportune time for a change. As fans eagerly anticipate the premiere of The Witcher season 3 in June 2023, there is some hesitation surrounding its direction and the fact that it will be Henry Cavill's final season. Including The Witcher 3 in PS Plus would ensure that this part of June is not overlooked, regardless of how the new season is received.
The PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers offer a plethora of additions, including nearly-complete franchises. While Man of Medan and Little Hope are already available, House of Ashes would make for a logical addition. Additionally, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation and Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters could further flesh out some already established franchises. It would also be interesting to delve into the history of The Sims on PS Plus, particularly with Project Rene in the works. For fans looking to play through the latest saga before Mortal Kombat 1 releases, Mortal Kombat 9 and MKX would be great additions (MK11 is already available). Furthermore, the addition of Metal Gear Solid would be a wonderful trip down memory lane, especially if rumors of a Metal Gear Solid Remake prove true. Lastly, with WWE in a new golden era, it would be great to revisit some of its best games, starting with Smackdown vs. Raw 2008.
PS Plus subscribers can look forward to a diverse range of games in June 2023. Sony will announce the free titles on May 31 (or potentially earlier at the PlayStation Showcase on May 24), with the Extra and Premium tiers following shortly after. With titles spanning from the classic Metal Gear Solid on PS1 to the more recent Mortal Kombat X on PS4, there's something for everyone. As always, PS Plus continues to offer great value to its subscribers by delivering a variety of games each month. Fans can expect an exciting month ahead and hopefully, Sony will continue to build on that anticipation through PS Plus.
