In an impressive cosplay, @LuckyX101 pays tribute to Star Wars: The Last Jedi by embodying the character of Finn, played by John Boyega, and wielding the iconic blue lightsaber. Finn's character is initially introduced as a stormtrooper who defects from the First Order and later joins the Resistance. Despite his central role in the marketing material leading up to the release of the new trilogy, Finn's true role in the movies was quite different. However, it's still thrilling to see him pick up the Jedi weapon once again in this cosplay shared on Twitter in honor of Star Wars Day on May 4.
The cosplay of Finn pays homage to his appearance in The Last Jedi. He is seen wearing Poe Dameron's jacket and a medallion belonging to Rose Tico. The background features a TIE fighter that potentially belongs to the Resistance. The attention to detail in the editing makes the weapon look realistic, adding to the overall effect of the cosplay. Although Finn does not wield a lightsaber in the movie, this cosplay brings that concept to life.
Early versions of Star Wars: The Force Awakens depicted Finn as having a stronger connection to the Jedi. Despite alterations to his character arc, Finn's fan-favorite status and several moments of apparent Force-sensitivity left the door open for potential Jedi training. It would have been exciting to witness a stormtrooper undergoing official Jedi teachings within the saga films. Prior to the reveal of Rey's lineage, she was considered a "nobody" as well. Together, Finn and Rey would have exemplified the notion that anyone can become a Jedi, serving as prime examples of the pull of the light and dark sides of the Force.
If Finn had been by Rey's side during her training, it could have eased the tremendous pressure she faced after the events of The Last Jedi. Even if she still struggled with the call of the dark side and Kylo Ren, Finn's background as a former soldier for the First Order could have made him the perfect counterpoint to her inner turmoil. The potential for Finn's character development is boundless, and creative Star Wars cosplay designs like this demonstrate that there are still plenty of exciting possibilities for his story in The Last Jedi.
