Britney Spears' forthcoming memoir, titled The Woman in Me, has reignited interest in her past relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Recently, an old interview resurfaced in which the former 'NSync member criticized his former partner. In a 2006 profile with journalist Robert Haskell, Timberlake, who is now 42, stated, "I dated Britney for half my life, but I no longer recognize that person. I'm not even sure if I truly knew her back then." Screenshots of this interview were leaked by a Spears fan account on Thursday, October 19, and shared on X, the former name for the social media platform Twitter.
Timberlake further added, "Should I ever write an article about [Britney], I would find it impossible to resist including all the scandalous details about her."
This recent article resurfacing is not the first instance when Timberlake has stirred controversy with his remarks about the 41-year-old Spears. Back in 2003, during an appearance on 20/20, Barbara Walters inquired if Spears had "kept her commitment to abstain from sex until marriage." In response, Timberlake famously burst into laughter.
That same year, the release of Timberlake's song "Cry Me a River" was accompanied by a music video that prominently displayed a Spears doppelgänger, leading to widespread speculation that their relationship ended because of alleged infidelity on Spears' part.
Beginning from "Timberlake and Spears met as children on the set of The Mickey Mouse Club..."
Having crossed paths as youngsters while working on The Mickey Mouse Club, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears later blossomed into the iconic duo of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Officially announcing their relationship in 1999, the pair remained an item until 2002.
In her latest book, The Woman in Me, set to be released on Tuesday, October 24, Spears reveals that Timberlake ended their relationship through a text message, according to insider confirmation on Thursday. The musician behind "Gimme More" expresses her shock and devastation at Timberlake's manner of handling the breakup.
Additionally, Spears disclosed in her tell-all that Timberlake had cheated on her "multiple times" during their time together and even allegedly got her pregnant.
According to an excerpt published by People on October 17, Britney Spears expressed Justin's unhappiness about the pregnancy, mentioning her agreement not to have the baby. She questioned whether it was the right decision, stating that she would not have made that choice if it were up to her alone. Additionally, Spears confessed to her own betrayal in the book, admitting to making out with dancer and choreographer Wade Robson while she was dating Timberlake. However, she wrote that she and Timberlake had agreed to move past the infidelity.

As the release date of The Woman in Me draws closer, a source revealed on Thursday that Timberlake is making an effort to avoid any involvement in the drama.
"Justin will continue to support Britney and her projects, but he is trying to keep his distance from her upcoming book," the insider revealed. "He's not paying too much attention to what she might reveal about their past relationship."
Following his split from Spears, Timberlake tied the knot with Jessica Biel in 2012. Together, they have two sons, Silas, aged 8, and Phineas, aged 3.
On the other hand, Spears has two sons, Sean, aged 18, and Jayden, aged 17, from her previous marriage with Kevin Federline. Recently, she ended her relationship with Sam Asghari, who officially filed for divorce from Spears in August after being married for 14 months.
The Woman in Me hits shelves on Tuesday, October 24.
