Despite their breakup almost ten years ago, John Mayer still holds affection for the collaborative song he and Katy Perry created during their relationship.

Mayer, aged 45, expressed his appreciation for the song "Who You Love" from the year 2013. This confession came during an interview on the show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, which took place on Monday, October 2. After the show, a fan asked Mayer which of his albums was his least favorite, and he named his sixth LP, Paradise Valley. Mayer clarified that it was only his least favorite because other albums held greater significance in his life. He mentioned that he dedicated less time to recording this album compared to his others but still had an affinity for some of the songs on it.

Host Andy Cohen mentioned that "Who You Love" is one of his personal favorite songs. Mayer expressed his satisfaction with the duet with Perry, calling it great and stating that he occasionally listens to it and enjoys how Perry sounds on the song. He also praised her for meeting the challenge of the song and described the experience as a lot of fun.

Mayer now appreciates the track as it embodies a "prototype" of his beloved album, Sob Rock, released in 2021, which holds a special place amongst his favorites.

He expressed to Cohen, 55, his sentiment of questioning, "Why am I unable to create music inspired by a different time?" Mayer wanted to explore the possibility of crafting music in various genres, allowing himself to imagine it as if it belonged to a distinct era.

Perry and Mayer had an on-and-off relationship from 2012 to 2015. Two years after their breakup, Mayer acknowledged that some of the songs on his 2017 album, The Search for Everything, drew inspiration from his former girlfriend.

In an interview with The New York Times, Mayer explained that the track "Still Feel Like Your Man" was particularly influenced by their relationship, stating, "Who else would I be thinking about?" He further revealed that he hadn't been involved in many romantic connections in the past few years, emphasizing, "That was my only relationship. So, please understand the significance of this in my life."

Perry, for her part, moved on with Orlando Bloom. The duo got engaged in 2019 and welcomed daughter Daisy Dove, now 3, the following year.
