The first generation of Pokemon games, which began with Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue in 1996, is widely recognized as one of the most popular versions of the franchise. While iconic creatures like Pikachu, Eevee, and Charizard have received new versions over time, many Gen 1 Pokemon have been left behind and forgotten.
Pepe_grillo, a Pokemon fan, recently created a chart that highlights the creatures from Gen 1 that have not received new designs like regional variants in later games. Out of the 151 original Pokemon, 40 of them have yet to gain any new forms. This includes well-known monsters such as Psyduck, Ditto, Starmie, Dragonite, and the entire Nido family, as well as lesser-known ones like Dewgong, Paras, and Goldeen.

The most favored choices were the male and female Nidoran, Nidorino, Nidoking, Nidorina, and Nidoqueen. Pokemon Fans Get Creative with Unofficial Variants
Pokemon fans have taken it upon themselves to create unofficial variants for many creatures. While official designs may not be released anytime soon, fan work is readily available. For example, a dedicated fan designed regional forms for Psyduck last year, introducing a Water/Psychic-type version of the creature. This new evolutionary line includes updated designs for both Psyduck and Golduck, drawing inspiration from concepts like meditation. Additionally, a new evolution called Ascenduck was introduced, adding a fresh twist to the beloved Pokemon.
Last year, a fan created new forms for Ditto known as Mimic Spike and Iron Replica. Mimic Spike was inspired by a stalagmite, while Iron Replica was based on a hologram. These creative designs reimagined the original Gen 1 Pokemon in a unique way. Fans are excited to see more old creatures getting new forms in future games. If Nintendo doesn't deliver, the community will surely come up with their own creative ideas.
