Exploring the Cozy World Within a Poké Ball in Pokémon's Latest Anime

Discover the surprisingly comfortable interior of Poké Balls in the newest Pokémon series, where cozy meets adventure.

Ever since the Pokémon series began over 25 years ago, fans have been curious about what it's like inside a Poké Ball. Many wonder about this, and Pokémon Horizons has provided one possible answer to this long-standing question. And you know what? It's actually not too shabby inside a Poké Ball.

There are various ideas about what Pokémon experience while inside their Poké Balls. Some believe that the Pokémon are in a state of suspension, transformed into energy or data, and are unaware of the passage of time. Others think that it's quite comfortable inside, with everything a Pokémon could possibly need. However, some speculate that being inside a Poké Ball may not be very pleasant, which could explain why Ash's Pikachu is not a fan of it.

Some artwork depicts Pokémon as simply shrinking and entering the Poké Ball, indicating that the inside of the ball is indeed just an empty space. However, the recently revamped Pokémon Horizons introduced a new concept of the Poké Ball interior in its fifth episode.

Poké Balls Can Provide a Luxury Experience For Pokémon

In the episode, Nidothing, a popular streamer, shares a video about different types of Poké Balls. Roy watches as Nidothing and their Quaxly showcase various Poké Balls, including the Luxury Ball. Surprisingly, the Luxury Ball reveals its interior, where Quaxly is seen lounging on a couch, enjoying a drink in a fancy glass under a disco ball, with a full bar in the background. This funny moment caught the attention of Joe Merrick, a well-known Pokémon fan and the founder of Serebii.

Luxury Balls are the most expensive type of Poké Ball in the games. Although they have the same catch rate as a regular Poké Ball, Pokémon caught with Luxury Balls tend to become friendlier. This is believed to be because of the better conditions inside the ball.

In one episode, Nidothing imagines what the interior of a Poké Ball might look like. This is the closest the series has ever come to showing what it could be like inside a Poké Ball.

Some fan works in the past have explored similar concepts. For example, in an episode of Robot Chicken on Adult Swim, Pikachu was shown having a party inside its Poké Ball, complete with a disco ball hanging from the ceiling.

If we take Nidothing's video of Quaxly in a Luxury Ball at face value, we may start to think about what it would be like inside different kinds of Poké Balls. Although there are no official sources confirming this, both the games and the anime suggest that being inside any other type of Poké Ball is not necessarily a bad experience.

Normal Poké Balls and their variations do not boost friendship levels, but they also do not harm it. This suggests that the inside of these balls is a neutral space. Luxury Balls and Cherish Balls in the games, on the other hand, do increase a Pokémon's friendship with its trainer. This aligns with the idea that the interior is comfortable, as Nidothing implies. In the anime, Pokémon generally appear content inside Poké Balls. While Pikachu's hesitation to enter its ball may seem like a negative experience, it is actually rare among Pokémon.
