As concern for Britney Spears intensifies, insiders talk to Us about what’s going on behind closed doors.
“Britney is very headstrong and is going to do what she wants,” says a source.
Spears was reportedly upset by the incident at the Chateau Marmont on May 2, as she didn't want things to escalate to that extent.
Just a week later, after the incident that made headlines, Spears returned to Instagram to share her love for dancing. In a video posted on May 8, she was seen wearing a cropped white blouse and neon bikini bottoms, smiling brightly as she danced to songs by Kings of Leon and Nelly Furtado.
Behind the scenes, there is growing concern among those close to the 42-year-old star. Since her split from ex-husband Sam Asghari in August 2023, Britney Spears has been displaying troubling behavior. One source describes recent incidents, such as the one at the Chateau Marmont on May 2, as "scary and very reminiscent" of her chaotic behavior in 2006, although not as severe.
Additionally, Spears' relationship with Paul Richard Soliz, whom she started seeing after her breakup with Asghari, has raised red flags. Soliz, a handyman initially hired to work at Spears' California home in 2022, was let go when his criminal background came to light. According to a source, Soliz is seen as a significant factor in Britney's current issues. Soliz was present at the Chateau Marmont during the incident, with an insider revealing that Britney was upset because he was trying to leave after visiting her room.
Spears' inner circle has attempted to support her by providing top-notch medical assistance, according to a source. However, the "Toxic" singer is currently not open to accepting their help. They remain hopeful that she will come around in the future.

Where Does She Stand With Her Family?
Multiple sources have indicated that Us Soliz is not having a positive influence on Spears. According to one insider, he is described as "terrible" and blamed for many of her issues, contributing to her decline. The source alleges that Soliz, who has a criminal history, is manipulative and actively working against her team's efforts to support her. Another source previously mentioned that Spears' team has been clear about their distrust of Soliz from the start, believing he has ulterior motives and should not be involved.
Her relationships with her family members are complex. She has a close bond with her brother, Bryan, even though they don't see each other often, they communicate frequently. She also stays in touch with her mom, Lynne. There seems to be unresolved anger towards Lynne, as seen in a deleted Instagram post where Britney appeared to blame her for a recent incident at the Chateau Marmont.
Despite this, Spears' team believes that spending time with her mom could be beneficial for the pop star during times of crisis. Lynne apparently knows how to handle Britney in such situations. On the other hand, Britney has no interest in reconnecting with her sister Jamie Lynn or her father, Jamie. The ongoing legal battle over her conservatorship was settled with Jamie on April 25. Repairing the relationships with her dad and sister is something Britney cannot fathom, and it holds no significance to her.
As for her sons, Sean, 18, and Jayden, 17, multiple sources say they are in touch with their mom, though an insider told Us in April that their conversations can be “very surface level.” Spears and the teens “text and speak on the phone,” says the first source, with the third noting that Spears is hoping things will “continue” to improve with the boys, who moved to Hawaii with their dad, Kevin Federline, last year. “She doesn’t have as much contact with them as she would like.”
Does She Have Plans to Work Again?
In January, Britney Spears announced on Instagram that she was finished with making albums, stating, "I will never return to the music industry." Charli XCX revealed that she had been approached to write songs for a potential Spears album, but unfortunately, the songs were not recorded.
During an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Charli XCX expressed her admiration for Britney Spears, saying, "You always write songs hoping Britney’s going to record them. I love her. It would be a dream come true." She also mentioned that she was unsure if Britney was involved in the songwriting process, speculating that Britney's team may have been overwhelmed with other projects. A source confirmed that Britney Spears is indeed busy with various other ventures, stating, "There are tons of deals lined up."

Who’s in Spears’ Inner Circle?
Spears’ inner circle consists of a small group of people, mainly including her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, and a female security guard whom she is close with. According to a source, the people around her genuinely care about her well-being. Another source mentions that Spears’ team is making a significant effort to support her and is exploring various treatment options for her, in addition to her current equine therapy. The focus is on establishing a routine for her. Multiple sources have confirmed that there are no plans to place Spears under a new conservatorship, as her previous one was terminated in late 2021 after 13 years. [Refer to the box for more information on the legal aspects involved.]
According to a third source, Asghari hoped for a friendly end to their marriage, but they are no longer in touch. The source mentioned that Asghari is concerned about Spears' well-being and is worried about her current situation.
Is Britney Overspending?
Britney's spending habits have caught some attention. According to a source, she enjoys shopping online for clothes, although she opts for more budget-friendly items instead of high-end designer pieces. The source also mentions that Britney tends to splurge on extravagant trips to destinations like Bora Bora and Hawaii, sometimes canceling them at the last minute. Another insider reveals that despite a plan in place after Britney's conservatorship ended to manage her finances, it hasn't been followed, leading to a rapid depletion of funds.
However, a different source downplays the situation, stating that Britney's expenditures on vacations and stylish outfits showcased on social media are her personal choice and well within her rights. This source emphasizes that there is no cause for concern regarding Britney's alleged $60 million fortune being depleted, highlighting her substantial earnings from recent ventures such as her bestselling memoir, successful collaborations like the duet with Elton John, and lucrative sales from her fragrance line. Additionally, the source mentions that Britney continues to receive royalties from her previous music projects, affirming that there are no financial issues at hand.
Understanding a Conservatorship
A legal expert talks to Us about what’s required to get out of a conservatorship and the likelihood of getting into one again.
Less than three years after Spears’ conservatorship was terminated, there’s some question as to whether she could be placed under another one. According to attorney Tamar Arminak, who represented Amanda Bynes’ parents when the actress wanted out of her conservatorship in 2022, it’s possible, but not without its complications. For a conservatorship to be put in place, it must be proven that a person has a mental illness or is suffering from a medical condition, like dementia, and lacks the mental capacity to provide for themselves. They “may be susceptible to people who might take advantage of them,” explains Arminak, adding that to get out of it, “you need to prove that you can take care of yourself — food, shelter, clothing, medical needs — and that you’re of sound mind.”
Arminak notes it can still be necessary to ensure “guardrails” are in place so the person has “the right care team” around them once the conservatorship is lifted. Putting someone back under one can be easy in some cases — “that person has a history of needing help,” Arminak explains — but it can be especially difficult in more public cases. “The pressure is significant,” Arminak says, adding that the decision wouldn’t be made lightly, considering the person was determined to be well enough to be “off that setting” in the past. Adds Arminak: “Were they taken off too soon? Was there too much public pressure? Those are natural questions that would be asked.”
