The art book for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom showcases a unique variation of the frox enemy that was ultimately not included in the final game. The game itself is incredibly expansive, filled with a multitude of monsters for players to encounter. One particularly treacherous area is known as the Depths, an underground location teeming with various dangers.
As players strive to complete the main quests in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, they will inevitably find themselves venturing into the Depths. There are multiple ways to access this perilous region, and one of the simplest methods involves accidentally falling through large openings scattered across the vast open world of Hyrule. Upon entering the Depths, players will immediately notice the complete darkness enveloping the surroundings, along with the presence of numerous menacing creatures, including the frox.
In the Depths of the game Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players can encounter a peculiar species called Frox. These frog-like creatures come in two variations: the formidable full-grown frox resembling giant toads and the smaller frox that are comparatively easier to handle. However, an observant Reddit user named michaelisstayinghome noticed a discrepancy between the frox variant depicted in the official Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom art book and the actual in-game version.
The smaller frox encountered in the game bear resemblance to the creature illustrated in the concept art. Nonetheless, the creature depicted in the concept art appears to have a longer body and is adorned with crystalline formations on its back. Evidently, the frox creature underwent a minor redesign during the transition from concept art to the final game. Therefore, while a version of this creature can be found in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Depths, players will not come across this exact variation during their adventures.
There is speculation that the frox variant may return as part of future DLC expansions for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, Nintendo has not yet announced any plans for DLC content. Despite the release of two DLCs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it is uncertain if post-launch content will be available for Tears of the Kingdom. Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming Nintendo Direct, hoping for more information, but it is unlikely that this particular version of the frox will be included. The game is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
