What Is Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse About
In the sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, titled Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, the spider multiverse is explored even further. The original Spider cast is reunited, joined by newer Spider-Men variants. The story takes place over a year after the events of the first film, focusing on Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales as they enter the Spider-Society. This society consists of various Spider-Men, with Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O'Hara, leading the group. Their mission is to prevent any attempts or threats that could disrupt the multiverse.
The film centers around a version of Spider-Man called The Spot, who was originally a scientist involved in Kingpin's collider project. During his work, Dr. Jonathan becomes trapped and gains unique powers, allowing him to open portals between dimensions and create smaller-scale portals. Assuming the persona of The Spot, Dr. Jonathan's sole purpose is to seek revenge on Miles Morales by killing his father, as he blames Miles for his own downfall. However, Spider-Man 2099, also known as Miguel O'Hara, prevents Miles from rescuing his father, believing it to be a significant event that every Spider-Man must endure - interfering would disrupt the multiverse.
After eventually eluding the Spider-Society, Miles finds himself in a completely different universe where there is no Spider-Man, and his uncle Aaron is still alive while his father has passed away. The film concludes with a tantalizing twist, as Miles comes face to face with an alternate version of himself who has become the villainous Prowler.
