New details have emerged about a potentially scrapped story quest for Qiqi, a five-star character in the popular RPG Genshin Impact. The leak includes nearly finished voice lines and sheds light on the progression of Qiqi's quest. While many of the game's newer characters have had their own focused questlines, Qiqi is one of the oldest characters in the game and had yet to receive a Story Quest. As one of the first five-star characters introduced in the game, Qiqi was a popular choice for early players as a skilled healer. However, the leak suggests that Qiqi was originally intended to play a much larger role in Genshin Impact's storyline.
A leak from Genshin Impact's previous datamines by Lumie, a well-known leaker, has disclosed information about a Story Quest that was once in development for Qiqi. The quest entails players joining forces with Qiqi to locate a cure for a mother and child who are affected by an unknown ailment. The Story Quest would have offered more insights into Qiqi's personality and showcased the gravity of her memory loss. The leak contains almost entirely recorded English voice lines for the entire Story Quest, with only Paimon's dialogues lacking voice acting.
Adding a Story Quest for Qiqi would have provided more depth to the character who has had limited appearances in Genshin Impact. Among the game's initial five-star lineup, Qiqi is one of only two characters who has not had their own Story Quest, with Diluc, Mona, Jean, and limited five-star character Venti all having had their own quests. Keqing also does not have her own Story Quest, but her role in the main story for Liyue and several Liyue-focused events is significant.
Qiqi's Story Quest was reportedly cancelled early in the game's development, but recent updates have placed a greater emphasis on Story Quests. Newer five-star characters like Alhaitham and Dehya typically receive their own Story Quests within a few updates of their debut, and four-star characters like Faruzan and Kaveh have also been featured in Hangout quests. Fans of Qiqi can only hope that Genshin Impact will revisit the character's story in the future.
Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
