Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx revolves around Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), a passionate young feminist who teams up with a budget publisher (Jake Johnson) to establish the pioneering women's erotic magazine. In the second season, Doug and Joyce grapple with the overwhelming success of Minx, which brings them more money, fame, and temptation than they can handle.
Joining the cast is Elizabeth Perkins, who portrays Constance, a wealthy widow of a Greek shipping magnate. Initially, she appears to have everyone's best interests in mind, but it soon becomes clear that she is primarily focused on herself, disregarding even the magazine. Despite being initially canceled by HBO, the show was later picked up by Starz, allowing for its second season. Minx season two premieres on July 21st, both on the Starz app and network.
Screen Rant sat down with Elizabeth Perkins to discuss her involvement in the second season of the show. She shared her reasons for being drawn to the character of Minx and expressed her excitement for audiences to witness the development of her character. Additionally, she mentioned her discomfort with the clothing she wears on the show. Elizabeth also provided a tantalizing glimpse into her role in Season 2 of The Afterparty.
Elizabeth Perkins Talks Minx Season 2
Screen Rant: I love you in this show. What was it like to come in and join an already established cast?
Elizabeth Perkins expressed her hope for everyone to be nice, but she quickly realized during the first season that everyone was genuinely enjoying themselves. It felt effortless to be part of the team and spend time with these individuals. There were no divas, and everyone's focus was on the exceptional work and fantastic scripts. Additionally, the cast members were stylishly attired, and they would gather together in a green room every day. Unlike someone isolating themselves in their trailer, they all hung out together. It created an incredible and positive atmosphere, which was truly enjoyable.
Elizabeth Perkins: For real, everyone's great.
Screen Rant: What was it about this show that made you want to be a part of it?
Elizabeth Perkins: The first season was absolutely captivating. Being a resident of Los Angeles for the past four decades, it's incredibly gratifying to witness the portrayal of 1970s LA and all the vibrant happenings – from the iconic Sunset Strip to the musical talents of Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne. There is an abundance of material to explore in this city. I have never come across a show quite like this before. I distinctly remember watching the initial episode and immediately being hooked, eagerly anticipating the next. The premise alone, with a pornographer from the valley crossing paths with a feminist writing for a women's magazine, creates a fascinating dynamic. The entire story revolves around this central relationship, which is masterfully constructed. So when the opportunity arose for me to take on a role in Minx, I enthusiastically jumped on board. I knew it would be a delightful experience and a fantastic project for any actor. Needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled.
Screen Rant: How did it feel wearing those outfits? You have some really nice ones this season.
Elizabeth Perkins: They're quite scratchy because they're made of polyester, which was popular in that era. And all the clothes have been dry-cleaned since most of them are vintage. Some were even handmade, but the majority are vintage pieces. So you're wearing something that belonged to someone else before, and there might be some dry cleaning fluid residue. But that's what makes it enjoyable as an actor. I also had to wear various headpieces and hairstyles. The hair and makeup trailer was always bustling every morning. It was a truly enjoyable experience to work on a period piece, especially set in the '70s and in LA.
Screen Rant: What aspect of your character's portrayal this season are you most eager for fans of the show to witness?
Elizabeth Perkins: I'm thrilled for viewers to witness her disruptive nature. In the tightly bonded bullpen, her entrance as an ultra-wealthy woman creates a sense of uncertainty among the others - they struggle with how to interact with her and communicate effectively. She strategically plays a game of chess unbeknownst to them, aiming to attain complete control and power over everyone. I believe she outwits them. Perhaps.
Screen Rant: Before we wrap, I have to tell you I have seen the first nine episodes of The Afterparty Season 2.
Elizabeth Perkins: What was it like? Who do you think the killer is?
Screen Rant: After multiple viewings, it seems that someone may have unintentionally taken the wrong glass on one occasion. Uncertain about this, I have developed numerous theories.
Elizabeth Perkins: Fascinating. Right, indeed. There are numerous subtle clues scattered throughout, commonly referred to as hints.
