Droids Unleashed: Dave Filoni's Hilarious Take on R2-D2 vs Ahsoka's Chopper

Discover the comical contrast between R2-D2 and Ahsoka's Chopper, as Dave Filoni hilariously explains their polar opposite personalities Dive into the unique traits that set them apart in this captivating article

Summary

Chopper, from Star Wars Rebels, has a grumpy demeanor and often makes life more difficult for his friends, unlike R2-D2.

Chopper, a feline-like character, is known for being reliable. However, his attitude often falls short of expectations. In contrast to the heroic portrayal of R2-D2 in Star Wars, Chopper causes havoc among the Ghost crew and creates a trail of destruction wherever he goes.

Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni has a great analogy to illustrate the contrast between Chopper and R2-D2. Chopper, who was created for the animated series Star Wars Rebels, became known for his cranky attitude and knack for stirring up trouble on the Ghost. Unlike the enthusiastic and helpful R2, Chopper completes his duties with much less enthusiasm and often ends up complicating things for his companions.

Chopper was first introduced in a 2014 feature preceding Rebels, and Filoni perfectly captured the distinct personalities of C1-10P and R2-D2.

Chopper can be best described as cat-like. He is loyal to his owner, Hera Syndulla, but his personality leaves much to be desired. While Chopper may come off as a jerk, he is ultimately an essential member of the Ghost crew.

R2 And Chopper Are Polar Opposites

Introduced in A New Hope, R2-D2 quickly established himself as a self-thinking droid on a mission. He separated from C-3PO to seek out Obi-Wan Kenobi, but they were soon reunited. R2 quickly formed a strong bond with Luke Skywalker, which is not surprising since he previously belonged to his father, Anakin. R2 remained by the young Jedi's side for much of his life, cheerfully assisting them in difficult situations on numerous occasions, arguably making him the greatest hero in Star Wars.

This cannot be said for Chopper. Instead of simply annoying his protocol droid counterpart, Chopper terrorized the entire Ghost crew, particularly Ezra and Zeb. He played pranks on the boys and complained about tasks assigned by Hera, behaving more like a cat than Sabine's loth-cat in Ahsoka. Chopper's most defining characteristic is the trail of destruction he leaves behind, as he has a high kill-count in Star Wars Rebels. In Ahsoka, he has returned to his mischievous ways, attempting to destroy frigates and the innocent population below.
