Ryan Koss, the driver involved in the fatal road collision that took Treat Williams' life, has accepted a plea deal.
According to the Associated Press, Koss, aged 35, admitted to negligent driving with death as a consequence in Bennington, Vermont on Friday, March 8. This misdemeanor charge will lead to Koss losing his driver's license for a year and participating in a community restorative justice program.
Koss addressed Williams’ family during the emotional hearing. He expressed his apologies and took responsibility for the tragic accident. Williams is survived by his wife Pam Van Sant and their children, Gill Williams and Elinor “Ellie” Williams.
Gill, who is 32 years old, graciously accepted Koss' apology on behalf of their family. He explained that they had chosen not to pursue legal action against Koss or seek his imprisonment. However, Gill did have a message for Koss.
"I forgive you, and I hope you can forgive yourself," Gill told Koss. "It's hard for me to accept that you took my father's life. I just needed to say that."
Williams passed away at the age of 71 in June 2023 due to a motorcycle accident. His spokesperson, Barry McPherson, confirmed the sad news, mentioning that Williams was hit by a car.
McPherson expressed his deep sorrow, describing Williams as a kind and talented person. He highlighted Williams' exceptional acting skills, stating that he was highly respected in the film industry. Williams had been a prominent figure in Hollywood since the late 1970s and was particularly proud of his recent work. He had a successful and fulfilling career.

Two months later, Koss faced charges of grossly negligent operation resulting in death from the accident. The Vermont State Police reported that Koss was driving a Honda Element SUV that collided with Williams' motorcycle. Despite considering himself a friend of the actor, Koss willingly cooperated with the authorities and issued a statement shortly after.
