Disastrous Trebuchet Launch in Zelda's Kingdom

Zelda player's trebuchet experiment ends in disaster, leaving them questioning their engineering abilities The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom takes a turn for the worse as players learn the hard way about the consequences of failed engineering

A player of the popular game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, had a hilarious mishap with their trebuchet that led them to question their engineering abilities. They shared their experience on social media, and the post quickly gained traction, particularly after another viral video on the importance of fire safety in the game. The new Zelda game, much like its predecessor, focuses on emergent gameplay, achieved through an open-world map and various mechanics that encourage creativity. One such system is the Ultrahand, a successor to Breath of the Wild's Magnesis rune. The Ultrahand works on non-metallic materials and allows players to fuse objects together to create vehicles, traps, and buildings.

Some players have found that they don't need to create complex machinery with their newfound power, and can instead have fun with simpler designs. Reddit user DrDalmaijer shared a gameplay clip of an ill-configured trebuchet meant to launch Time Bombs. Unfortunately, the design failed spectacularly, and only the control platform, with Link included, was propelled in the ensuing explosion. DrDalmaijer explained that they had placed Bomb Flowers in a basket made of wagon wheels, and since the propellant wasn't attached to the machine, it shouldn't have received a signal once the trebuchet was powered on.

The placement of the Bomb Flowers and the weight of the basket are potential factors that led to the accident. However, it is likely that the force generated by the heavy basket caused the Time Bombs to bounce and explode first. To test this theory, DrDalmaijer plans to rebuild the trebuchet with only a single bomb and observe if it prevents the entire payload from exploding. The Zelda game has been the source of many engineering mishaps, and recently, a player from Tears of the Kingdom regretted cutting corners on airplane parts after encountering a similar situation.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now on Switch.
