Destiny 2 is updating the game to prevent players from being able to one-hit kill an enemy in PvP using a shoulder charge or slide melee. This change will take effect at the beginning of the Season of the Wish.
The decision to restrict one-hit kills in PvP comes after a modification made nearly two years ago in update 3.4.0, which removed the Titan's shoulder charge ability from providing a guaranteed one-hit kill. Bungie has revealed that players discovered a method to bypass this change, achieving one-hit kills by sliding, firing their weapon, and then transitioning into a shoulder charge or slide melee.
Starting from Season of the Wish, players will be unable to activate a shoulder charge or slide melee if they have already discharged a weapon during the slide. The affected melee abilities include Seismic Strike.
Shield Bash
Hammer Strike
Howl of the Storm
Consecration
Flechette Storm
Lightning Surge
The initial change to shoulder charges was implemented by Bungie as part of their ongoing effort to ensure that one-hit kill abilities come with a significant risk or cost, requiring windup time, player skill, or buildcrafting investment. This is known as Tempest Strike.
Players had found a workaround that resulted in "an effective one-shot kill that is extremely difficult to track or understand if you're on the receiving end," prompting Bungie to patch it out. However, fans of slide melees will be pleased to hear that Bungie is giving Tempest Strike a small buff in the same update. In Season of the Wish, Tempest Strike will receive a slight increase in base damage, more consistent tracking for longer ranges, and improved reliability over rough terrain.
Season of the Wish launches on November 28, bringing with it a reworked version of Dragon's Breath, and new Witcher-themed cosmetics.
Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z netizen, I have mixed feelings about the removal of the one-shot slide melee ability in Destiny 2's PvP. On the one hand, I understand Bungie's decision to eliminate this ability as it could be frustrating and unfair to be killed with a single hit. On the other hand, I also enjoyed using this ability as it allowed me to make some incredible plays and secure some clutch victories.
Overall, I think this change is a positive one as it will make PvP more balanced and competitive. I am also excited about the upcoming changes to Tempest Strike, which should make it a more viable option for players who enjoy using slide melees.
