Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 8.
Summary
The Ahsoka finale in season 1 has successfully merged animation and live-action, establishing significant implications for the future of the galaxy. In this finale, the Mortis arc from Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been reintroduced, effectively connecting essential characters and storylines.
Ahsoka season 1 alludes to the continuation of the Mortis narrative, making references to the Mortis deities and hinting at the potential introduction of Abeloth in future episodes.
In the Ahsoka finale, Dave Filoni revisits a significant Star Wars storyline that he initially introduced 12 years ago, which holds immense implications for the future of the galaxy. Throughout Ahsoka season 1, numerous characters, pivotal moments, and storylines from Filoni's animated works have been incorporated, mainly because Ahsoka Tano's story has predominantly unfolded in animation. The concluding episode of the Star Wars Disney+ TV series further solidifies the connection between these two mediums.
Ahsoka season 1 was filled with interest and mystery surrounding Baylan Skoll, portrayed by Ray Stevenson, and the enigmatic power or entity he sensed on Peridea. Throughout the series, he repeatedly mentioned hearing a calling even before their arrival, characterizing it as a "beginning" with the potential to break the Jedi versus Sith cycle. It has now been unveiled that the ones beckoning to him were the Mortis gods, whose history can be traced back to a previous animated Star Wars series.
Star Wars Launched The Mortis Arc In The Clone Wars
The Mortis arc, featured in season 3 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, depicted the perplexing situation where Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan Kenobi found themselves stranded on a mystical planet alongside three enigmatic Force-gods. Consequently, Ahsoka became intricately entwined with the Daughter, the benevolent Force-goddess who selflessly sacrificed her own life for Ahsoka's survival. These Mortis gods also made an appearance in season 4 of Star Wars Rebels, facilitating Ezra Bridger's passage into the ethereal World Between Worlds. Remarkably, after 12 years since the premiere of this The Clone Wars arc, Filoni is now carrying forward its gripping narrative.
Ahsoka's Ending Confirmed This Is The Sequel To The Mortis Arc
Baylan is not only seen standing on the hand of a statue of the Father, but Ahsoka is also visited by Morai, her convor. Morai, the owl, has been connected to Ahsoka ever since the Daughter sacrificed her life for her. The stone statue of the Daughter is the only one on Peridea that is destroyed, while both the Father and the Son still stand. Many viewers speculate that this could be a hint towards the introduction of Abeloth, the Mother. Abeloth was consumed by darkness when she attempted to acquire the same immortal powers as her family.
There is no doubt that Filoni intends to finish his extensive Star Wars narrative centered around Mortis soon. Although Ahsoka season 2 has not been officially confirmed, if it does not happen, this story could be told in Filoni's The Mandalorian-era movie. The future of Ahsoka is clearly tied to Mortis, and the outcome will greatly affect the fate of the Star Wars galaxy, especially considering its significance in The Clone Wars arc where it was first introduced.
