Spy x Family Code: White is set to premiere in North American theaters next year.
Crunchyroll, a leading anime streaming company, has recently announced their acquisition of the distribution rights for Spy x Family's first animated feature. In partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Crunchyroll plans to release Code White for audience in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Australia/New Zealand, and select European territories. Viewers will have the choice to watch the film in Japanese with English subtitles or in an English dubbed version. Toho Animation also recently unveiled the final trailer for Code White, generating excitement among the series' dedicated fan base.
The hit manga Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo tells the story of a unique found family consisting of a secret agent, an assassin, and a telepathic young girl. Loid Forger (also known as Agent Twilight) lives undercover as a small-town psychologist while secretly carrying out missions to protect his home country, Westalis. Unbeknownst to him, his wife Yor is a deadly assassin known as Thorn Princess. Their psychic daughter, Anya, is aware of her father's spy work and does her best to assist him. The anime adaptation of this popular series by CloverWorks and Wit Studios premiered in April 2022 and has gained immense popularity in Japan and worldwide. While Spy x Family is currently airing its second season, Code White presents an original standalone story written by Ichiro Okouchi, known for his work on Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
The film's story starts with Operation Strix, where Agent Twilight aims to prevent civil war through infiltrating Eden Academy, an elite school, and influencing Ostania's Prime Minister, Donovan Desmond. To support Anya's advancement in Eden, Agent Twilight decides to help her win the school's annual cooking competition by discovering the headmaster's favorite recipe. However, Anya unintentionally sets off a chain of events that pose a significant threat to world peace. Code White is directed by Takashi Katagiri, who also serves as an assistant director for the television series.
Spy x Family has garnered immense praise from both fans and critics since its release. With its blend of comedy and heartfelt storytelling, the manga has earned nominations for prestigious awards such as Harvey and Eisner. It has also secured a spot on the New York Times' bestseller list for Graphic Novels and Manga. The second season of Spy x Family, currently showcasing the thrilling "Cruise Adventure" storyline, premiered last month and has been met with great enthusiasm.
The Spy x Family anime adaptation is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu. The original manga is available in English from VIZ Media.
