Felix 'xQc' Lengyel, a prominent Twitch streamer and content creator, has recently joined the streaming platform Kick and has wasted no time in stirring up trouble. Despite only starting to stream on Kick this month, xQc's streams on Twitch have always been embroiled in controversy. However, it seems that he has already caught the attention of the DMCA on his new platform.
xQc's decision to leave his longstanding primary platform and sign a lucrative two-year deal with Kick was met with shockwaves throughout the streaming community. As one of the top streamers on Twitch and in the streaming world overall, his move garnered significant attention. The deal guarantees him a staggering $70 million, with the potential to earn up to $100 million based on his performance on the platform.
The issue xQc encountered during one of his recent streams is a clear breach of Kick's DMCA policy. The DMCA, also known as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, essentially prohibits streamers or content creators from using copyrighted material without permission. In the case of xQc, the violation occurred when he live-streamed the 2008 film The Dark Knight. It was during a pivotal moment in the fan-favorite Batman movie, specifically the scene where the Joker is held captive in a jail cell, that xQc received a message from a Kick staff member notifying him of the violation of the DMCA policy.
xQc's streaming journey took an unexpected turn when he abruptly paused the VOD during a live stream on his Kick channel. Uttering a quick "makes sense" and "gg," he brought the stream to an abrupt end. This interruption happened during a significant portion of The Dark Knight, presenting a missed opportunity for xQc to potentially earn thousands of dollars from that single stream. Streaming expert Devin Nash analyzed xQc's lucrative new contract and estimated that his potential earnings could reach an impressive $10,000 per hour.
Unfortunately, xQc's troubles extend beyond the streaming realm. Despite relocating back to his native Canada to escape the frequent swatting incidents, he continues to face issues at his new residence. In a recent video tour of his new place, the streamer concluded with an unexpected scene of flashing police lights and an officer appearing at his doorstep.
Despite an early DMCA hiccup, it should be interesting to see if xQc can succeed on a non-Twitch streaming platform and what impact he makes on Kick's relevance going forward.
