Chelsea have reached a tentative agreement with Monaco to secure the services of defender Axel Disasi for a figure close to £38.6 million. Disasi, who has only two years remaining on his contract, was previously associated with a move to Manchester United and Newcastle during this transfer period.

Monaco sought a certain degree of assurance regarding a replacement before approving the transfer for Disasi. Over the weekend, the club reached an agreement with Southampton for the acquisition of defender Mohammed Salisu.

Earlier this month, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino hinted that the club might enter the transfer market due to the ACL injury endured by centre-back Wesley Fofana.

Fofana underwent knee surgery and Pochettino expressed optimism that he would make a comeback during this season's injury absence. Pochettino's options for the center-back positions include Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in the previous season.

Blues agree £23.1m deal for Ugochukwu

Disasi will provide Chelsea with an additional choice in the right-sided centre-back position. After spending four years at Reims, he transferred to Monaco in 2020. Furthermore, Disasi represented France in the 2022 World Cup, where he made three appearances.

Lesley Ugochukwu is heading to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Rennes for €27m (£23.1m).

Chelsea is still deliberating whether to include the 19-year-old in Pochettino's main squad or send him out on loan. There have been discussions about a potential temporary transfer to Strasbourg, a Ligue 1 team in which Chelsea holds a significant stake.
