Carlos PenaVega candidly shares the challenges he faces as his wife Alexa PenaVega navigates her fourth pregnancy, shedding light on the impact it has on both him and their relationship

Carlos PenaVega and wife Alexa PenaVega are ecstatic about their fourth pregnancy, but they acknowledge that it comes with its challenges.

"She's my best friend. So, I always say, 'Listen, a nine-month pregnancy is tough on the wives, but it's definitely tough on the husband,'" Carlos, 34, exclusively told We on Tuesday, November 28, while promoting the couple's partnership with The Salvation Army.

The Big Time Rush member admitted, "Losing your best friend is tough. And it's not just during those nine months, but even after, she's still not herself for a while."

Carlos shared that "we're all making sacrifices," which made his wife, 35, laugh. Ultimately, she agreed with her husband's observation about how their relationship changes during each pregnancy and after the baby is born.

"Many women have the attitude of 'I don't care, whatever.' But for me, it's different. I believe that he really does have to make sacrifices," Alexa revealed exclusively to Us. "Husbands have to make significant sacrifices."

Carlos openly acknowledged that he doesn't give up "as much" as his wife while she carries their fourth baby, but it "definitely" affects some things. "It's a decision we made together. We're excited," he said. Alexa playfully added, "Thank you for the sacrifice."

The couple, who got married in 2014, revealed earlier this month that they are expecting their fourth child. They already have sons Ocean, 6, and Kingston, 4, and daughter Rio, 2.

Alexa shared on Instagram on November 17, "Grateful for our love of adventures," alongside maternity shoot photos. "Baby number four on the way!" Despite previous pregnancies, Alexa admitted to Us on Tuesday that this time has been tougher on her body. "Thankfully, the nausea is gone now, which was really rough," she shared, mentioning she had "some scares" earlier on.

“I’m constantly on the move. We never slow down, but now I’ve had to learn how to. It’s been tough for both of us with our busy schedule and three other kids,” Alexa shared. “We live on a boat for half of the year, so this pregnancy has been a lot to handle. I’ve had to stop and ask myself, ‘What is God trying to tell me right now?’”

To ensure a smoother pregnancy, Alexa has made a conscious effort to take it easy. “I’m going to relax and take care of this baby as much as possible, and listen to my body when it tells me to rest,” she said.

Despite Alexa’s hectic schedule and pregnancy, she and Carlos have continued to work with The Salvation Army, even amidst their upcoming parenting responsibilities. The pair, who currently call Lahaina, Hawaii home, recently partnered with the nonprofit to provide aid to those affected by the devastating August wildfires in Maui. (After a brush fire and strong winds, a significant portion of Lahaina was left in ruins this past summer, resulting in an estimated death toll of 97 people and over $1 billion in property damage.)

The Salvation Army has been a part of our family for years. I'm sure everyone has seen the red kettlebell in front of Walmart and various places, and it always felt like home to us," said Alexa. "Specifically, Giving Tuesday is a great reminder for everyone that giving back is incredible. The whole point of giving back isn't to receive – it's to give. But the impact on your heart, it just expands your heart. And seeing the joy on people's faces, there's nothing like giving. There really isn't."

Carlos shared a touching moment when he and Alexa "got to actually go shopping for the kids and then meet the kids in person" after the Maui disaster. The couple then gifted the children their presents alongside their own kids.

"For me and our children, it was a truly impactful moment. It made us realize, 'Oh, this is the true essence of it all,'" he recalled. "Not only is this what The Salvation Army is accomplishing, and you're witnessing it firsthand, but this is the impact of your generosity."

Carlos emphasized that the organization is relentless, always ready to act. "When disaster strikes, they are there without fail. They truly operate like an army, always ready to assist those in need."
