Britney Spears comes to a breaking point in her memoir, "The Women in Me," as she reflects on the moment when she realizes she never wants to see her family members again. According to a reliable source, the 41-year-old singer devotes a portion of her debut book to finding inner peace and making the decision to sever ties with her father Jamie Spears, mother Lynne Spears, and other relatives. It is worth noting that Jamie, 71, and Lynne, 68, are also parents to Bryan, 46, and Jamie Lynn, 32.
According to an insider, Britney had a significant moment of realization when she traveled to Louisiana to visit her parents amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Allegedly, her parents had stopped responding to her phone calls. It was during this visit that Britney discovered that her cherished collection of Madame Alexander dolls, which she had received as a child, had been disposed of by her family.
Furthermore, the Grammy winner realized that when she was admitted to a mental health facility, she had entrusted several of her belongings to be kept at her mother Lynne's house. To her dismay, she discovered that not only were her belongings missing, but also years of her written work, including valuable original poetry, had been discarded.
Feeling like her family had abandoned her by getting rid of her valuable belongings, Britney understood that it was time for her to reconnect with her faith and sever ties with them.
Britney achieved fame initially through her appearances on The All New Mickey Mouse Club and later as a teenage pop sensation. During this time, her family appeared to be fully supportive. However, their relationship turned sour in 2008 when Britney faced numerous public challenges and was placed under the conservatorship of her father, Jamie.
Kevin Mazur/WireImageJamie had control over Britney’s estate and person for more than a decade until he resigned in 2019. Jodi Montgomery, a member of her conservatorship team, took over Jamie's role. Lynne, who divorced Jamie in 2002, intervened a year later and requested involvement in the financial decisions made on Britney’s behalf.
Britney took steps to end the conservatorship in 2021, accusing Jamie and Montgomery of abusing their roles.
During her court testimony in June 2021, the singer expressed her desire to reclaim her life after 13 years under the conservatorship. She emphasized the need to regain control over her finances, stating, "It’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end without being tested." Britney also expressed her intention to hold her family accountable, expressing a desire to sue them. Furthermore, she expressed the need to share her story with the world, shedding light on the mistreatment she had endured, instead of it remaining a secret to benefit others.
A judge ruled in November to end the 13-year conservatorship. Britney celebrated her newfound freedom with then-husband Sam Asghari, but their situation changed when he filed for divorce in August. (Britney and Asghari, 29, married in June 2022 after dating for six years.)
According to a second source, the separation had a significant impact on Britney's perspective on her family relationships. The insider revealed that without Sam's support, Britney is now more willing to consider repairing her relationship with her mother. Although Britney is uncertain if their connection can fully recover, she is open to the possibility and understands that it would take time.
The source stated that Britney showed no interest in reconciling with Jamie according to the content.
Regarding her relationships with her siblings, another insider mentioned in August that Britney has always had a close bond with her brother Bryan. However, her relationship with Jamie Lynn has been tumultuous, often resulting in conflicts on social media regarding the lack of support from the Sweet Magnolias star during the conservatorship controversy. Britney recently shared her reunion with Jamie Lynn on Instagram in June.
