Britney Spears Reveals Shocking Truth About Her Conservatorship Journey in Captivating Book Excerpt

Britney Spears reveals her harrowing experience as a 'robot' trapped in a conservatorship in a compelling excerpt from her highly anticipated book, 'The Woman in Me'

Reflecting on the early days of her conservatorship in her upcoming book, The Woman in Me, Britney Spears revealed that shaving her head and acting out were her forms of rebellion. However, she acknowledged that under the conservatorship, she was no longer allowed to engage in such behavior. In an excerpt published by People on October 17, the 41-year-old singer wrote, "I had to comply with growing my hair out, maintaining my physical fitness, adhering to a strict bedtime routine, and following the prescribed medication regimen."

In 2008, following a string of public difficulties after her divorce from Kevin Federline, Spears was placed under a conservatorship. Her father, Jamie Spears, had control over her finances and personal matters for the majority of the next ten years. Finally, in November 2021, a judge released Britney from the conservatorship.

During that period, Britney reflects on feeling like a robotic child. She explains how she was infantilized to the point of losing her sense of self. The conservatorship deprived her of her womanhood, reducing her to a childlike state. Onstage, she felt more like an entity than a person, stripped of the music that had always resonated within her essence.

She expressed feeling like a mere "shadow" of herself throughout the 13-year duration of her conservatorship. Reflecting on her father and his associates having authority over her body and finances for such a prolonged period is now disheartening to her. She wrote, "It sickens me to think about it." Comparatively, she highlighted how many male artists have faced financial mismanagement, substance abuse, or mental health challenges, yet their autonomy over their bodies and finances was not targeted. She believes she did not deserve the treatment she received from her family.

Britney unveiled her album, The Woman in Me, in 2022. In April of the same year, she shared that the process of writing the album had been a source of healing and therapy for her.

Earlier this month, we received exclusive information from an insider about Britney, claiming that she did not hold back when discussing her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in her book. Britney and Timberlake, who met as children on the set of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, were in a relationship from 1999 to 2002.

The source subtly hinted that Justin may not be pleased with the book, as Britney reportedly "goes after him hard" in her memoir.

Meanwhile, another insider disclosed that Britney, who separated from her husband Sam Asghari earlier this year, has no intention of seeking revenge. Her main goal is to simply share her own truth. "Britney doesn't intend to criticize anyone," the insider revealed. "She only plans on presenting the facts as she sees them from her point of view."

The release date for The Woman in Me is Tuesday, October 24th.
