Britney Spears and her estranged father have reached a settlement, more than two years after the court-ordered termination of a conservatorship that gave him control over her life. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed by their attorneys, who confirmed the agreement to CNN.
"We feel privileged to have represented, protected, and defended Britney Spears," stated Mathew Rosengart, the singer's attorney, in a message to CNN.
"Britney Spears will always be remembered as an iconic, brilliant, and courageous artist of historic significance," Rosengart added. "With the conservatorship officially ended in November 2021, her wish for freedom has finally come true. She no longer has to attend court or be involved in legal matters, as she desired."
Jamie's father's attorney, Alex Weingarten, shared with CNN, "Jamie is really happy that everything is finally resolved." Weingarten added, "Jamie cares deeply for his daughter and has put in a lot of effort to keep her safe. He only wants what's best for Britney, nothing less."
Spears’ conservatorship ended in November 2021. However, legal disputes have continued with the singer's lawyers and her father's lawyers facing off in court over attorney fees and claims of mishandling the conservatorship. Despite the allegations, her father has consistently refuted them.
In 2008, the star was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship, with her father being responsible for managing her finances and medical choices for most of the 13-year period.
In 2021, after 13 years, the conservatorship of Britney Spears came to an end. In June of that year, Spears made a powerful statement in court, the first time she had spoken openly in the 13-year period. She asked the judge to release her from the conservatorship, describing it as "abusive."
During her testimony, Spears revealed that she was pressured by her management to go on tour even when she didn't want to. She also shared that she was given lithium which made her feel intoxicated, and she was not allowed to marry or have a baby as she desired. Additionally, she mentioned being forced to use an IUD for birth control.

"I just want my life back. It's been 13 years and it's enough," Spears emotionally expressed during the hearing.

Furthermore, she has published a bestselling memoir titled “The Woman In Me.”
In her memoir, she shared about the difficult years of her conservatorship, expressing how she felt like she had lost a part of herself.
