World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas addressed concerns regarding the Trading Post feature in a recent interview, providing clarifications and offering insight into potential changes for future updates. The Trading Post, introduced in Patch 10.0.5 earlier this year, initially experienced challenges during its launch in World of Warcraft but managed to gain popularity among players. In the latest update, the Trading Post's offerings for July and August were expanded, featuring sought-after rewards like Tyrael's Charger and the Grotto Netherwing Drake. However, certain concerns have arisen regarding the Trading Post's future prior to the upcoming content update.
Hazzikostas clarified in an interview that Trader's Tenders will not be made available on Blizzard's Cash Shop. He attributed the recent appearance of datamined assets for the Trader's Tenders to an unintentional error during development. These assets were mistakenly left unencrypted and inadvertently included in a recent build of World of Warcraft's public test realm (PTR). Hazzikostas acknowledged that numerous internal assets, similar to those found in the Trader's Tenders, are created well in advance, though many never progress beyond the development stage. However, in this specific instance, these assets mistakenly slipped through the cracks.
Naturally, this error caused serious concerns about the future of the Trading Post. Some World of Warcraft players worried that it would undermine the purpose of the Trading Post and create even bigger problems for the game's economy. Hazzikostas acknowledged the players' feedback and their dissatisfaction with any in-game currency being available on the Cash Shop. However, he mentioned the possibility of Trader's Tenders being available in the future through promotions or expansion launches. For instance, during the launch of Patch 10.0.5, 500 Trader's Tenders were given to World of Warcraft players who had the Dragonflight expansion active on their accounts.
In conclusion, players anticipating World of Warcraft's upcoming Fractures in Time update can be reassured that the Trading Post will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future. Only time will reveal what lies ahead for the Trading Post.
World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
