When it comes to Star Wars conversations nowadays, there's about a 30% chance that they'll involve speculation about which beloved character will make an appearance in a Disney Plus show. And now, another instance of this speculation has emerged, which seems to have some credibility.
As the highly anticipated Star Wars show, Ahsoka, gears up for its release, fans can expect plenty of exciting moments that will surely grab their attention. Notably, it will mark the first live-action appearances of several characters from Star Wars Rebels, a milestone for the franchise. Most excitingly, it will also feature the beloved Legends villain Grand Admiral Thrawn in live-action canon, portrayed by Lars Mikkelsen, who also voiced the character in Rebels. But among all these significant moments, fans have caught onto the possibility of one more familiar face making an appearance.
The mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes has introduced a new character to its lineup - Captain Rex, a prominent Clone Trooper derived from Jango Fett's DNA. This iteration of Rex stands out as he now bears the likeness of New Zealand Māori actor Temuera Morrison, as revealed on the Daily Star Wars Games Twitter account. This update holds significance considering Morrison's previous roles as Jango Fett and various Clones in the live-action Star Wars prequel trilogy. Notably, Rex typically featured a more stylized appearance in animated series, unlike his current portrayal resembling Morrison. These changes prompt speculation about the character's future direction.
Fans speculate that this could indicate Disney's intention to introduce the character in one of the live-action Star Wars series, possibly through a secret appearance in Ahsoka. This aligns with Morrison's recent statement expressing his desire to portray Captain Rex. It is not the first time Morrison has portrayed an older Clone other than Boba, as he briefly appeared as an abandoned war veteran in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. All the necessary elements seem to be in place.
However, it is important to note that this is only a game announcement. Given the more realistic art style of Galaxy of Heroes, it is reasonable to assume that Morrison's likeness would be used to maintain consistency. Nevertheless, Star Wars is founded on the notion that hope can emerge from even the tiniest spark. It is worth remaining optimistic. After all, Rex and Ahsoka share a deep connection, and it would be a significant missed opportunity if their long-awaited reunion does not occur.
Ahsoka releases its first 2 episodes on August 23rd on Disney Plus.
