Roma officials Ryan Friedkin and Tiago Pinto journeyed to London over the weekend for in-person negotiations with Chelsea regarding a prospective deal to transfer Lukaku to the Italian capital for the upcoming season.

Following a contentious interview where Lukaku expressed his discontent under former head coach Thomas Tuchel, the striker spent the previous season on loan at Inter Milan.

The striker was eager to go back to Italy and specifically chose Rome because of his strong inclination to collaborate with Mourinho once more. Juventus engaged in discussions with Chelsea regarding Lukaku's transfer earlier this summer, while Inter also expressed interest in bringing the Belgian international back to Italy.
