Lisa, the Blackpink star, seems to have had her Chinese social media page on Weibo removed. This comes weeks after she performed a burlesque routine in Paris, which generated a significant controversy on China's heavily regulated internet. As of Wednesday afternoon, Lisa's verified account @lalalalisa_m is no longer accessible on Weibo, a widely used social media platform in China.
"The account is currently unavailable for viewing due to numerous complaints regarding violations of laws, regulations, and relevant rules from the Weibo Community Management Regulations," mentioned her successor's page. It remains unclear what specific complaints were made, however, it is standard practice for Chinese web companies to suspend or delete pages that contravene the country's extensive censorship regulations or attract excessive controversy."
Lisa's account was suspended following her five shows at the renowned Crazy Horse Paris in September. While the venue is esteemed for its burlesque performances, Lisa's shows sparked controversy in certain Asian regions with more conservative beliefs. CNN has contacted Weibo and YG Entertainment, the star's record label, for their statements.
Blackpink's other members, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rose, still have active Weibo accounts.
The K-Pop supergroup, Blackpink, gained worldwide recognition following their debut in 2016. This year, the group was the main act at Coachella and has also participated in collaborations with renowned American singers like Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez.
Lisa, the sole female member of the group who lacks Korean roots, has garnered a significant fan base in China, particularly due to her participation as a mentor in a popular regional dance reality program.
In China, an intense discussion unfolded on Weibo, pitting skeptics of Lisa's affiliation with Crazy Horse against those who endorsed her appearance on the show.
"Lisa was provided with excellent resources. But why did she opt for the Crazy Horse show?" one Weibo user questioned.
Another user suggested that her account should have been suspended earlier. "Even after attending the Crazy Horse show, she continued to maintain a high level of prominence on Weibo," the user remarked.
Others lamented the disappearance of her Weibo page
"I may have also criticized her for the Crazy Horse show. But that doesnt mean she should be banned," another use wrote.
