Blackpink's four members have officially renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment, as reported in the label's regulatory filing released on Wednesday. Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé will continue as a quartet, although the length of their new contracts was not disclosed.
The expiration of their previous contracts in August led to anxious speculation among fans worldwide about whether the stars would pursue individual careers or bring an end to one of South Korea's most successful musical exports. YG Entertainment announced in a filing that the board has resolved to renew the contracts with all four members of Blackpink.
Blackpink has risen to become one of the most successful girl groups globally since their debut in 2016. In 2022, they achieved the feat of being the first female K-Pop group to top the UK and US album charts. Additionally, their track "How You Like That" set a record as the most viewed video on YouTube within 24 hours in 2020. In 2019, Blackpink also made history as the first female K-Pop group to perform at Coachella and other US festivals.
YG Entertainments shares, which had been on the slide since mid September, soared 22% following the announcement.
