Lisa, the Blackpink star, seems to have had her Weibo page, a Chinese social media platform, removed. This comes weeks after her controversial burlesque performance in Paris, which stirred up a considerable discussion on China's heavily monitored internet. On Wednesday afternoon, Lisa's verified account, @lalalalisa_m, was no longer accessible on Weibo, a highly popular social media network in China.
The account is inaccessible now due to numerous complaints of violating laws, regulations, and the Weibo Community Management Regulations, according to her replacement page. The specific nature of the complaints is unclear, but Chinese internet companies frequently suspend or delete pages that violate the country's extensive censorship regulations or cause excessive controversy.
Lisa's account was suspended following her five performances at the Crazy Horse Paris in September. This renowned venue is among the city's prime destinations for burlesque performances, but the shows generated controversy in certain Asian regions known for their conservative beliefs. CNN has contacted Weibo and YG Entertainment, the star's record label, for their comments.
The Weibo accounts of Jisoo, Jennie, and Rose, who are members of the supergroup Blackpink, are still active. Blackpink gained international recognition after their debut in 2016, and they recently performed as the headlining act at Coachella. They have also collaborated with notable US artists such as Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez.
Lisa, the sole female member in the group without Korean heritage, has garnered a significant fan base in China, primarily due to her participation as a coach on a reality dance show. Within China's online platform, Weibo, a heated discussion arose between users expressing skepticism towards Lisa's collaboration with Crazy Horse and those who showed their support for her involvement.
One Weibo user questioned Lisa's choice of the Crazy Horse show despite being provided with excellent resources.
Another user expressed the belief that her account should have been removed earlier, citing her continued high visibility on Weibo following the attendance of the Crazy Horse show.
Others lamented the disappearance of her Weibo page.
"I may have also criticized her for the Crazy Horse show. But that doesnt mean she should be banned," another use wrote.
