Tina Knowles shared a personal story about her daughter Solange's conception. According to Beyoncé and Solange's mom, Solange was conceived on the Nile in Egypt. She originally thought she was having a boy and planned to name him Niles. However, to her surprise, she welcomed a baby girl instead.
Tina, who is 70 years old, recently shared the story behind her daughters' unique names. According to her, the name Solange has French origins.
She recalled, "I purchased a baby name book in Paris for a friend who was expecting a baby. Little did I know, the following year, I would be the one using that book to choose a name for my own baby."
Solange, who is 37 years old, has shared in the past about the special place where she was conceived. This location inspired the title of her Orion’s Rise tour.
During an interview with the U.K.’s Evening Standard in October 2017, she revealed, “I had some revelations about my parents discovering that I was conceived in Egypt after they visited the Giza pyramids. This connection led me to align with the constellation of Orion that also aligns with Giza.”
Beyoncé, Solange's older sister, was inspired by Tina's maiden name when choosing her own name. Tina was originally known as Celestine Ann Beyonce but changed her name in 1980 after marrying Beyoncé and Solange's father, Mathew Knowles.
Tina explained that she decided to change her name because she wanted to keep the Beyonce name alive, as there were very few boys in the family. She felt it was important for her to claim the name and pass it on to her children.
Tina recently reminisced about her daughters' pre-fame days, in addition to discussing how Solange was conceived.
In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Tina revealed that Beyoncé used to be shy and faced bullying. However, Tina proudly recalled a moment when Beyoncé stood up for someone else, not herself. This act of kindness brought tears to Tina's eyes, as she expressed her immense pride in her daughter.
Solange, meanwhile, had people “signing a petition in school” while only in fifth grade. “She’s always been an activist,” Tina fondly recalled.
