A Baldur's Gate 3 player has discovered a clever way to defeat the final boss of Act 2, adding to the game's already extensive list of powerful builds and combos.
Utilizing the unique special attack of the Twist of Fortune morningstar, known as Blood Money, in conjunction with surreptitiously pilfering a substantial sum of 15,000 gold from the boss, the player successfully inflicted devastating damage that swiftly ended the boss's life.
Though this technique may not have been intended by the game's creators, it exemplifies the ingeniousness of players in discovering unconventional strategies.
One player in Baldur's Gate 3 has discovered a unique method to defeat the final boss of Act 2 in a single attack. This impressive accomplishment adds to the already extensive selection of powerful builds and combinations that can inflict significant damage in Baldur's Gate 3.
Caution! Spoilers for Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3 ahead. The second act of the game concludes with an epic battle against General Ketheric Thorm. This encounter consists of two stages, with the first potentially being bypassed by passing a challenging skill check. Once Thorm is defeated in the first stage, he transforms into the Apostle of Myrkul, a massive skeleton wielding an appropriately large scythe. In his final form, he possesses resistances to various types of damage and is capable of inflicting severe harm. Additionally, Thorm has a tendency to use a forceful pull to bring the party closer to him at the beginning of each turn, making it difficult for players to heal due to his Bone-Chill aura.
The Apostle of Myrkul is usually a difficult enemy to defeat, but Reddit user GoldenThane discovered a simple way to defeat him in one shot. By using the morningstar Twist of Fortune, obtained by defeating Gerringothe Thorm earlier in Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3, GoldenThane was able to unleash the special attack Blood Money. This attack deals an additional 3 Piercing damage for every 300 gold in the target's possession. GoldenThane decided to use the Pickpocketing skill to add 15,000 gold to Thorm's inventory during the first stage of the fight.
Once Thorm transformed into the Apostle of Myrkul, GoldenThane struck him with Blood Money, instantly killing the boss with its high damage. Despite the bonus effect from Blood Money and the added gold only resulting in 150 Piercing damage, each increment of damage counted as a separate attack, activating the ability Cull the Weak. This ability deals an additional 1-4 Psychic damage to nearby enemies when a creature has fewer hit points than the attacker's evolved Illithid powers. Whether this interaction was intentional by the developers or not, it allowed GoldenThane to defeat the Apostle of Myrkul with a single hit.
This recent strategy for easily defeating the final boss in the game's second act is just one of many clever techniques that players have come up with to quickly eliminate enemies in Larian's popular RPG. Another example of this occurred in mid-August, when a fan showcased a trick involving an Owlbear in Baldur's Gate 3 that deals an astonishing amount of damage.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available for PC, with a PS5 version set to release on September 6 and an Xbox Series X/S version expected to launch in late 2023.
