Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner Elon Musk have reportedly agreed to a potential cage fight, although the likelihood of it actually happening is slim. This proposed event gained attention following a report suggesting that Zuckerberg and Facebook were developing an alternative to Twitter called Threads. It is said that this project commenced three months after Musk acquired Twitter.
Although the accuracy of this report is yet to be confirmed, it doesn't come as a surprise. Since Musk's acquisition of Twitter, many users have either left the platform or contemplated doing so. Additionally, alternative platforms such as Mastodon, Hive Social, and Bluesky Social have gained some popularity. Users have various reasons for seeking alternatives, and the existing options have not been entirely successful. However, Facebook's expertise could potentially change the game in this competition.
In response to the report, Elon Musk criticized the notion of social media being "under Zuck's thumb," while someone jokingly suggested that Musk should be careful because Zuckerberg knows jiu-jitsu. Musk playfully responded, "I'm up for a cage match if he is." This exchange took place on Twitter, but it didn't deter Zuckerberg from responding on Instagram. He shared a screenshot of Musk's tweet along with a caption saying, "send me location." The Verge reached out to Meta PR for confirmation, and a spokesperson affirmed that Zuckerberg's message was not a joke, emphasizing that the "send me location" message speaks for itself. In contrast, Musk's response seems to be in a lighthearted manner.
Musk responded to The Verge's report by mentioning the "Vegas Octagon" as the location, making an obvious reference to UFC's caged fighting arena. However, he followed up this tweet with a series of jokes, claiming that he rarely works out and only engages in physical activity by playfully throwing his children in the air. He also mentioned a move called the Walrus, where he simply lays on top of his opponent. Amidst the jokes and evasive language, Musk did mention that the most entertaining outcome is the most likely, although it remains unclear whether he was referring to himself or to a general audience. Ultimately, while there may be a perceived difference in skill between Zuckerberg and Musk, many would undoubtedly enjoy seeing them face off in the Octagon. It could even lead to them making cameo appearances in future UFC video games. However, how the situation unfolds is uncertain.
