Anne Hathaway and her husband Adam Shulman marked their 11th wedding anniversary in the most enjoyable way imaginable: snuggled up on the sofa binge-watching Abbott Elementary. (Relationship goals.)
During an appearance on the October 5 episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, the 40-year-old actress shared how their intimate night in came about, revealing that their initial plans were derailed by the torrential storms in New York City. However, they quickly adapted to the situation by slipping into their pajamas once again.
"I found myself curled up on his chest, engrossed in the third hour of Abbott Elementary. In that moment, I realized with absolute certainty that he was the perfect match for me," she enthusiastically shared about her husband, with whom she has two sons, Jonathan, 7, and Jack, 3.
Reflecting on the early days of their romance, the actress fondly recalled how their bond deepened during a whirlwind week in 2008 when she was hosting Saturday Night Live.
"This has been one of the most exhilarating weeks of my life, and it continues to be," Hathaway revealed. After completing her hosting responsibilities at SNL, she wasted no time in boarding a plane to Los Angeles for a movie shoot. "It was during this time that Adam and I grew even closer."
Despite meeting Shulman through mutual friends at the Palm Springs Film Festival in April 2008, as Hathaway disclosed in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, she had an immediate realization that he was "the love of my life." However, she also acknowledged that their encounter couldn't have happened at a less opportune moment.
Hathaway was in a relationship with Raffaello Follieri at the time she and Shulman met. However, their relationship ended when Follieri was convicted of defrauding investors and sentenced to prison. Hathaway and Shulman officially started dating in November 2008. They got engaged in 2011 and got married on September 29, 2012.
“He transformed my capacity to exist comfortably in the world,” Hathaway expressed to Elle in 2017. “There is a prevailing notion today that women no longer require anyone. However, I rely on my husband. His exceptional and distinct love has had a transformative effect on me.”
Despite the discouragement caused by the heavy rainfall in NYC, which affected their plans for their 11th anniversary, Hathaway found contentment in staying indoors. She disclosed in 2012 her preference for a laid-back and easygoing partner.
“Mellow doesn’t always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
