Andrew Garfield Remains Unfazed by Fan Preferences for Other Spider-Men: Their Loss

During an interview with Variety on Thursday, December 7th, Andrew Garfield, 40, shared that he doesn't mind if fans prefer another actor's portrayal of Spider-Man. "I've been a fan of Spider-Man since I was three years old," he revealed, adding that he even dressed up as the superhero for Halloween as a young child. "If you love me as Spider-Man, that's great, and if you don't, it's your loss."
Garfield, Tom Holland, and Toby Maguire have all portrayed the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man over the years. Garfield recently discussed the experience of joining Holland, 27, and Maguire, 48, in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, commenting, "I think until all three of us were in the room rehearsing, figuring out what we were going to do, there was no way of writing it...Every single one of us had our own version of that character and we didn't know how they were going to interact, until they were actually interacting in the room together."
Garfield joked that the vibe on set was as if they “were making a low-budget short film with friends” even though “it was the biggest movie in the history of movies.”

“It was stressful, I’m not gonna lie,” Garfield told TheWrap in January 2022. “It was rather stressful but also weirdly enjoyable.”
He persisted, "I have an aversion to dishonesty and I'm inept at deceiving, but I approached it as a challenge... I desired the actor to excel at persuading me that he was not involved. And then I longed to be astonished in the theater when my intuition was validated."
Tom Holland has been portraying the superhero since 2016, following Tobey Maguire's three movies from 2002 to 2007 and Andrew Garfield's two Amazing Spider-Man films in 2012 and 2014. Despite fans' strong opinions about the best Spider-Man, the actors have developed a close bond.

Holland disclosed in June that he shares a "fantastic group chat" with Garfield and Maguire, called "The Spider-Man Boys," as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. He added, "Myself, Andrew, Tobey — we have such a powerful connection as three individuals who have experienced something so extraordinary that we truly are like brothers."
