Ahsoka Ignites a Spectacular Resurrection of Colin Trevorrow's Epic Star Wars 9 Plan!

Ahsoka breathes new life into Colin Trevorrow's cancelled Star Wars 9 plan, delving deeper into the enigmatic world of Mortis and surpassing the original concept's potential A thrilling expansion awaits!

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 8

Summary

In "Star Wars," the final episode featuring Ahsoka seems to incorporate ideas from Colin Trevorrow's unused Episode 9 script, specifically related to the Force realm of Mortis. The significant presence of the Mortis gods, such as the Father, Son, and Daughter, in Trevorrow's original script can now be seen in "Ahsoka," hinting at more to come through imposing statues.

Filoni's vision for Mortis and the Force gods in "Ahsoka" appears to have greater scope and potential compared to Trevorrow's original plans for Episode 9. The finale episode of Ahsoka seems to be incorporating concepts from Colin Trevorrow's unused script, "Duel of the Fates," but on a grander scale thanks to showrunner Dave Filoni.

In Ahsoka's final episode, it is revealed that Grand Admiral Thrawn has successfully escaped from the extragalactic world of Peridea where he was exiled for several years. During this time, he missed the entire war between the Rebellion and the Empire as depicted in the original trilogy. While Jedi Ezra Bridger managed to escape Peridea by disguising himself as a stormtrooper on Thrawn's ship, Ahsoka Tano and her apprentice Sabine Wren were not as fortunate. However, Baylan Skoll made the decision to stay on Peridea in order to search for greater power. In the finale, it is revealed that Baylan has discovered significant connections to Mortis and the Force gods known as the Ones, which was a concept that would have been explored in Trevorrow's Episode 9.

Colin Trevorrow's Plans For Mortis In Star Wars 9 Explained

Colin Trevorrow's Duel of the Fates, the original script that was released online in 2020, confirmed that Mortis would have played a major role in Episode 9. Mortis was first introduced in The Clone Wars season 3, where Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano inadvertently discover this mystical realm of the Force. In Mortis, they encounter the Father, Son, and Daughter, immortal gods who embody different aspects of the Force. The Daughter represents light, while the Son represents darkness. The Father's role is to maintain balance between his children, serving as the central force that keeps the galaxy's balance intact.

In The Clone Wars' three-episode arc, it is revealed that Anakin Skywalker is the prophesied Chosen One who could have taken the Father's place. However, the deaths of the three Force gods disrupted the balance within Mortis. Despite this, if Lucasfilm had stuck with Colin Trevorrow's original plan for Episode 9, Mortis would have been featured in the Star Wars canon. Its significant role and profound ties to the origin of the Force would have justified its inclusion in the final movie of the Skywalker saga. It would have served as a crucial link, connecting the Star Wars timeline across trilogies and eras.

Ahsoka Brings Back The Mortis Gods - And May Actually Be On Mortis

In Episode 9, a reimagined version of the iconic Duel of the Fates would have featured Rey embarking on a journey to discover the Force realm. Along the way, she would confront and defeat the menacing Knights of Ren, testing her own strength against the temptations of the dark side. Eventually, Rey would confront Kylo Ren on Mortis, a setting that holds great significance in the quest for balance in the Force. It is here where Kylo has grown into a formidable adversary, displaying newfound power.

In a surprising twist, Rey's encounter on Mortis leads her to embrace not only the light side but also the dark side. She transcends the traditional dichotomy between Jedi and Sith, achieving a true state of equilibrium. This pivotal development holds immense power, particularly within the Force's ongoing pursuit of balance.

The Mortis gods are brought back into the story by Ahsoka in a significant manner. Ahsoka had previously mentioned to her apprentice Shin Hati that something had been drawing Baylan's attention since their arrival on Peridea. Baylan, driven by his curiosity, embarked on a personal quest to find this source of power that even the powerful Nightsisters' Great Mothers feared. This fear prompted their alliance with Thrawn, leaving behind the remnants of their once mighty witch kingdom. In the final moments of Ahsoka's finale, Baylan uncovers towering statues of the Father and Son, along with the shattered remains of the Daughter.

These Force god statues strongly suggest a significant connection between Peridea and Mortis. However, it may be more than just a connection. Previous episodes have confirmed that Peridea was one of the names given to the Nightsisters' original homeworld in myths and legends. This raises the possibility that Peridea and Mortis are actually one and the same in the Star Wars canon. Additionally, Obi-Wan's statement in The Clone Wars that he couldn't determine their location or whether they were still in their own galaxy after being drawn to Mortis by the Father aligns with the existence of Peridea in another galaxy.

At the very least, the Mortis gods were aware of Peridea as a world, indicating that its residents, potentially including the Nightsisters, may have worshipped them. If Peridea and Mortis are eventually revealed to be separate planets, there could still be access points to Mortis on Peridea itself. This could potentially provide Ahsoka and Sabine with a new way to escape the extragalactic world. However, it is also possible that Peridea has a significant connection to the Legends history of the Force gods and poses a horrifying new threat to the Star Wars galaxy.

Ahsoka Sets Up A Much Bigger Mortis Story Than Star Wars 9 Planned

After the major Mortis reveal in Ahsoka's finale, it is evident that Star Wars is potentially preparing for the return of The Father, Son, and Daughter. Alternatively, they could introduce the Mother from Legends, who transformed into the corrupted Force entity known as Abeloth. Abeloth, a being of complete chaos and entropy, was imprisoned by the Force gods for thousands of years in Legends. However, after their demise, Abeloth broke free and became a significant threat during the New Republic era.

Considering this, it is possible that Abeloth is the legendary power that has been reaching out to Baylan. She would certainly be formidable enough to frighten the Great Mothers of the Nightsisters. If Abeloth desired to eradicate the entire galaxy to establish a new one, Baylan may be searching for her power in his quest to end the perpetual conflict between the light and dark sides. Naturally, reintroducing and adapting Abeloth, along with her history with the Mortis gods, would have a profound impact on the Star Wars franchise.

Mortis Is Better In Ahsoka Than It Would've Been Star Wars 9

Ahsoka's presence on Peridea becomes crucial because she harbors the essence of the Daughter from The Clone Wars season 3. This connection with the Daughter is evident through the vigilant presence of Morai, the Daughter's convor owl, who has consistently guarded and accompanied Ahsoka on her journey, including her final episode. Thus, the appearance of Morai on Peridea serves as a meaningful indication that Ahsoka and her apprentice are fated to be there, most likely to confront Baylan.

Ahsoka Ignites a Spectacular Resurrection of Colin Trevorrow's Epic Star Wars 9 Plan!

The revival of the Mortis concept and the introduction of the Force gods in live-action by Ahsoka is truly exciting, especially considering the cancellation of Duel of the Fates. It is clear from this setup that Filoni's plans for Episode 9 will surpass Trevorrow's in terms of scale and scope. Although Trevorrow's concept seemed promising, it is ultimately better that Filoni continues the exploration of Mortis and the Force gods, as he was the one who initially conceived these ideas. With Filoni at the helm, it is difficult to find a better choice for telling a new Mortis story in the Star Wars universe.
