The latest Ahsoka show trailer cleverly incorporates an Easter egg from Andor and pays homage to a beloved Star Wars story from twenty years ago. Like all Star Wars productions, Ahsoka is filled with Easter eggs and references to the larger universe. It was already anticipated that Ahsoka would serve as a sequel to Star Wars Rebels, ensuring numerous connections and callbacks to the previous show.
The Ahsoka official trailer further expands on these Easter eggs, providing the most comprehensive glimpse into the upcoming Star Wars series thus far. Not only do we get a first glimpse of Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, but we are also treated to several references to Anakin Skywalker. Amongst all these Easter eggs, there is one particular connection to two other Star Wars properties that is cleverly hidden, surpassing the overt references to the wider Star Wars canon.
Ahsoka's Starmap Looks Just Like Rakatan Technology
The Ahsoka trailer features a starmap used by Morgan Elsbeth, which connects to the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic released in 2003. In the trailer, the villains Elsbeth, Shin Hati, and Baylan Skoll are seen using a starmap to locate Thrawn, which appears as a spherical projection. This starmap's design closely resembles the Rakatan technology found in Knights of the Old Republic.
Knights of the Old Republic introduced the Rakata, an ancient race that emerged early in galactic history. These Force-users, who exclusively wielded the dark side, formed the powerful Infinity Empire and enforced their dominance over the galaxy. The game featured a Rakatan starmap with a design similar to the starmap used by Elsbeth in the Ahsoka trailer.
Star Wars Has Been Setting Up KotOR's Rakata Since Andor
The connections between Ahsoka and other Star Wars properties extend further, as the link to Rakatan technology also ties into Andor. In episode 4 of Andor, Luthen presents Cassian with a Kyber Crystal from an ancient era marked by a resistance against the Rakatan invaders. This serves as another reference to Knights of the Old Republic and officially integrates the Rakata into the Star Wars canon, having previously been part of the non-canon Legends.
By combining the Easter egg in Andor with the one in Ahsoka, it is possible that the Rakata may play a significant role in the future of Star Wars. In Star Wars Legends, the Rakatans established their Empire around 30000 BBY, which hints at a potential involvement of the Rakata in James Mangold's upcoming Dawn of the Jedi movie, set 5000 years after this period. While this may be unlikely, the Easter eggs found in Ahsoka and Andor provide interesting connections between the wider Star Wars Legends and the canon.
