World of Warcraft is proceeding with the controversial Alexstrasza quest, although the player's involvement has been altered. When the quest was introduced in the Public Test Realm, the community quickly criticized Blizzard for its inclusion. Initially, players had to keep Alexstrasza captive and participate in her mistreatment by the Dragonmaw Orcs. In response to the negative feedback, Blizzard considered removing the quest.
As a replacement for the Alexstrasza quest, players now interact with a well-known villain from the World of Warcraft universe. They are compelled to initiate a series of events that lead to the downfall of Arthas Menethil, who subsequently becomes the Lich King. This change was met with approval from many fans, as it maintains the motivation of the Infinite Dragonflight while presenting players with a moral dilemma - causing a tragic event in order to preserve the integrity of the timeline.
However, instead of completely removing it, Blizzard has made the decision to retain the Alexstrasza quest. This time, however, fans have the opportunity to play a role in freeing her from the clutches of the Dragonmaw Orcs. The cheerful and playful tone of Chromie's dialogue remains intact, as does most of the gameplay structure. However, the main change lies in the rewritten dialogue and text, which now guides World of Warcraft players to Dun Algaz to relocate a dragon egg. This pivotal discovery by Rhonin sets the stage for the events depicted in Day of the Dragon.
While many fans have embraced the rewrites, a few are questioning the necessity of the changes. The Infinite Dragonflight's mission revolves around preventing past tragedies to create a better future, while the Keepers of Time are responsible for safeguarding the timeline. Players have participated in significant events like the opening of the Dark Portal and the Culling of Stratholme, which are historically disastrous in World of Warcraft.
However, they have also been involved in Thrall's escape from Durnholde and the Battle of Mount Hyjal, which contradicts the argument against their purpose. Nonetheless, it's undeniable that the current quest is a vast improvement from its original version and seamlessly fits in with the other daily tasks in Eon's Fringe. Patch 10.1.5 in World of Warcraft concentrates on the Bronze Dragonflight, but the spotlight on the Infinite Dragonflight in the campaign and the new megadungeon brings a refreshing change. Despite the ongoing threat from the Primalists on the Dragon Isles, focusing on the Infinite Dragonflight is a welcome shift in pace.
