Sarah Jessica Parker enjoys watching her two daughters indulge in cake and cookies, something she was not allowed to do as a child.
In a recent interview, the 59-year-old actress shared that she wants to ensure her 14-year-old twins, Marion and Tabitha, do not develop the same negative associations with food that she had when she was young.
She mentioned on the Monday, April 1, episode of the “Ruthie’s Table 4” podcast that she didn't want her daughters to have a negative relationship with food and view it as an adversary.
Parker, along with her husband Matthew Broderick, has twin daughters and a 21-year-old son named James. Reflecting on her own childhood in Ohio, she recalled that they were not allowed to have sugar, chocolate, or cookies at home. As a result, once they moved out, they indulged in buying lots of cakes and cookies, a cycle she hoped to break for her own children.
Parker ensures that her children can enjoy sweets whenever they crave them. She shared on a podcast that in their home, they have cookies, cake, and a variety of treats. She believes that having these options helps build a stronger bond within the family. Parker hopes that her daughters, who are athletes, will maintain their healthy figures while still savoring different flavors and enjoying food. She wants them to continue appreciating the joy of eating and exploring new tastes.
The star of And Just Like That shared with People that her twins have unique interests. She mentioned, "They are very close, but also value their alone time. Tabitha enjoys playing alone for long periods, while Marion prefers checking in frequently. They attend different schools, a decision made by Tabitha."

In a separate interview, Parker shared her thoughts on parenting and mentioned that she aligns with Dolly Parton's approach of prioritizing a child's needs over their wants.
"I believe it's wonderful for children to have their basic needs taken care of—being fed, safe, and loved. These are the essential things in life: books, food, and exciting experiences. It's important that they are comfortable in all seasons, warm in winter and cool in summer," she shared with E! News in July 2023. "However, it's also important for them to desire things, to have wants. And we should consider, how can they contribute to fulfilling those desires?"
Parker and Broderick also teach their children the importance of understanding the value of money.
“You want your children to understand what it means to earn money, what it takes to earn money,” she said on the “Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi” podcast in July 2023.
