Hoda Kotb shared on the Today with Hoda & Jenna show that her 6-year-old daughter, Haley, expressed interest in wearing a crop top. The cohost revealed that her eldest child specifically asked about wearing a midriff during a recent episode.
As she strolled down the street, she greeted her mother with a cheerful "Hi mom," before pulling up her shirt halfway. Puzzled, Kotb asked her daughter what she was doing, to which she simply replied "Nothing," while giggling uncontrollably. Despite speculations from Bush Hager that the behavior was influenced by teenage fashion trends, Kotb clarified that her daughter does not have any teenage friends to emulate.
Kotb expressed her conflicting emotions about wanting her children to feel comfortable in their own skin while also feeling unsure about when to give her daughter independence. As a mother of two adopted children, including Hope, 3, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman, she finds it challenging to navigate this balance.
Hoda Kotb shared her parenting struggle of whether to give her kid control or say no. She revealed that they often give options to their child, such as choosing between blueberries or raspberries and pink or red clothes, to make them feel in control. However, she questions the effectiveness of this parenting style and wonders if sometimes it's necessary to simply say no.
Kotb has made it a priority to instill strong values in her children, and has been vocal about her parenting approach. In a previous interview with Us, the NBC personality shared that she is raising her daughters to be compassionate and make a positive impact on the world.
"I want my kids to understand the importance of being happy and helping others. The feeling of giving to someone in need is truly beautiful," Kotb expressed exclusively to Us during the holiday season last year.
"I feel a great sense of pride as my daughter took the initiative to pay for the table next to us during our dinner date last night. She picked the table on her own and it wasn't something that I had influenced her to do. This incident has motivated me to encourage my children to engage in more such acts of kindness and generosity. With the holiday season around the corner, it is the perfect time to instill these values in them."
