The And Just Like That star, who is now 58 years old, reflected on how their differing lifestyles impacted their relationship. Downey Jr., also 58, had battled substance abuse issues for several years before achieving sobriety in 2003.

"Parker revealed that despite facing dismissive attitudes from people around her, she remained committed to providing stability and establishing a sense of consistency for her former partner. She believed that her efforts contributed to his ability to be punctual and reliable. While this situation would often leave her feeling angry and embarrassed, Parker confessed that she never felt the need to go through a rebellious phase herself. Their relationship, which began in 1984 and ended in 1991, blossomed on the set of their movie Firstborn. Despite their romantic journey coming to an end, both actors have consistently expressed admiration and affection for one another."

During an interview with YES Network in April 2018, the Sex and the City alum described the relationship as an adventurous and important eight years of her life. She emphasized that they had spent a significant amount of time together and he was the first person she had ever lived with.
