Why Kayla Nicole Unfollowed Patrick and Brittany Mahomes: Personal Protection

Kayla Nicole and Brittany Mahomes were once extremely close until Nicole chose to unfollow Mahomes on Instagram.

"It is necessary for me to address this publicly because my decision to unfollow people was done publicly," explained Nicole, 31, in an interview with People on October 25. "In reality, I know these individuals personally, and I have privately communicated with them about the reasons behind my public choices."

Nicole and Travis Kelce were in an on-again, off-again relationship for five years until their final breakup in May 2022. Throughout their time together, Nicole formed a close bond with Brittany, who is married to Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes.

Recently, it was revealed that Nicole stopped following Patrick and Brittany on Instagram shortly after they became friends with Taylor Swift, who is currently dating Kelce. The Grammy-winning artist, who is 33 years old, was seen bonding with Brittany at several Chiefs games this season, even developing their own special handshake.

Nicole, on her part, told People that she had private discussions with Brittany regarding her decision to unfollow.

"It's not as simple as people think," Nicole added. "Just because we broke up a year ago, it doesn't mean that all communication and relationships cease to exist. That's not how reality works." She further mentioned, "I maintain ongoing relationships with everyone involved. Brittany is aware of my love for her."

She remarked, "There is a significant amount of history and friendship at stake here, which cannot be altered overnight," she stated. "However, due to the rapid and public nature of events, I need to prioritize my self-protection. That ultimately sums it up. The affection between us remains intact."

In the meantime, Brittany has developed a "authentic friendship" with Swift.

A source exclusively revealed to us earlier this month that they have spent some time together and quickly formed a close bond. Brittany has a high opinion of Taylor, finding her sweet and down-to-earth, and they get along exceptionally well.

In addition to their enjoyable handshake during the Chiefs game on Sunday, October 22, against the Los Angeles Chargers, the "Mastermind" singer was captured in photos at the event, engaging with Brittany and Patrick's two children: Sterling, aged 2, and Bronze, aged 11 months.
