Investing in resistance may not be the most effective strategy in Diablo 4, as players have discovered that it requires significant buffs to compete with the benefits of Armor and Damage Reduction. While the game's itemization does include some exciting features, such as the Vulnerable stat, players may find resistance to offer a false sense of security. Although resistance is designed to reduce elemental damage, in practice, its impact is relatively minor compared to the benefits of Armor.

One of the challenges that Diablo 4 faces is with level scaling, which many players consider to be too demanding for character progression. In certain situations, such as during Helltides or World Bosses, players may find it more effective to team up with lower-level characters to defeat enemies. This approach can seem counter-intuitive for a hack-and-slash roleplaying game, where players typically strive to increase their power levels. To maintain their strength, players must continually acquire better loot, which can be challenging given the game's itemization system, which typically favors Skill Cooldown Reduction over other stats.

Kripparian, a prominent Diablo streamer, recently analyzed the Resistance stat in Diablo 4, concluding that its current scaling heavily diminishes the effectiveness of elemental resistances. For instance, an item with a 52.2% Cold Resistance bonus only provides a 2.2% reduction in cold damage. Consequently, players are discouraged from prioritizing Resistance over attributes like Life or Damage Reduction, which scale more favorably. The issue of non-physical resistances has been a topic of debate since the beta, with no clear solution in sight. Some fans have suggested making Resistances a hard number rather than a percentage, where each point decreases damage from its associated elemental source by roughly 0.1%. However, it's essential to note that World Tier 3 and above reduces the final value of Resistances by 40%, meaning that players will never exceed a value of 60% in endgame.

Blizzard may need a few months to address the most problematic aspects of their itemization, but they have demonstrated their openness to feedback and making improvements. Kripparian played a crucial role in introducing Paragon levels to Diablo 3, and his input continues to be highly respected among both the players and the Blizzard team.
