Introduction
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is expected to be one of Lucasfilm's 2024 releases and will feature a novel premise alongside an all-star cast and crew. Set during the same time period as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, the upcoming Star Wars TV show promises to be unlike anything Lucasfilm has made to date.

By taking a fresh approach to the Star Wars galaxy, Skeleton Crew could repeat the success of Andor. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been created by Jon Watts and Chris Ford, with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau in producer roles given the show's New Republic setting on the Star Wars timeline alongside the duo's other projects. Given this setting, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is expected to serve as another crucial step toward Lucasfilm's upcoming movie set in The Mandalorian era.

Latest News
Lucasfilm is keeping much of the information about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew under wraps for now, but a short teaser trailer was shown at Star Wars Celebration 2023. In the trailer, the children in the story appear to live on a planet very reminiscent of Earth. The footage confirmed that Jude Law's Star Wars character is a Jedi, and he looks to be taking on a somewhat parental role while the children are away from home.

While no major recurring characters have been revealed to take part in the show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is expected to continue the trend of including big cameos from other Star Wars shows. Just as the characters of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka have all crossed over with one another, Skeleton Crew is expected to do the same. This could mean appearances from Din Djarin and Grogu are possible, as is the cameo of Grand Admiral Thrawn who is set to be the New Republic era's main villain. More news will be unveiled about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew as 2024 continues.

Predicted Release Date
Skeleton Crew's release date has changed recently, though is still expected in 2024. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was initially confirmed for a 2023 release at Star Wars Celebration 2023, yet Ahsoka proved to be the final release of that year for Lucasfilm. This update means that Skeleton Crew's release date can be expected at some point in 2024. Both are predicted to be released in 2024, with the latter likely coming in the last half of the year.
Cast
The exclusive trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew shown at Star Wars Celebration 2023 revealed Jude Law as a Jedi, as well as more details about the children the story focuses on. Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and Ryan Kiera Armstong will be playing four unnamed children who find themselves on an adventure with Jude Law's Jedi. Other confirmed Skeleton Crew cast include Kerry Condon (known for voicing F.R.I.D.A.Y. in the MCU) and Tunde Adebimpe. Marti Matulis's Vane, a space pirate who survived a conflict with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian season 3, was glimpsed in the trailer; this likely means there will be other familiar faces, given those pirates were loosely connected to the Empire.

Story: What It's About
At D23, Watts described the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew show as a coming-of-age story about four children from a “tiny little planet” who become lost in the vastness of space. The Disney+ TV show will show a unique point of view for a Star Wars story, perhaps showing adventures on a far smaller scale than the movies of the Skywalker Saga or even the planet-hopping The Mandalorian.
In October 2023, an official premise for Skeleton Crew was revealed. The premise pertains to the first episode of the show, and how the events of the premiere installment impact the rest of the story: 'In the first episode of the Skeleton Crew we are introduced to four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet and get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies, will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.'
Jon Watts also claimed at D23 that—although the group of four children will make up a large part of Skeleton Crew’s cast—it is not a “kid's show” and will feature a number of dark plot elements that should satiate the adult audience members. Overall, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew aims to be a Star Wars TV show that both children and adults can enjoy.
