Max's Warrior has been canceled after three seasons, but will find a new streaming home soon. Warrior is a Max action series set during the Tong Wars of the 1800s. Its plot follows a martial arts prodigy from China who migrates to San Francisco and becomes a hatchet man for a powerful tong in Chinatown.

Deadline reveals that Warrior has not been renewed for season 4, with Max instead choosing to cancel series after season 3. The first three seasons of Warrior will, however, be made available to stream on Netflix while also remaining on Max. Warrior is expected to hit Netflix in February 2024. The show’s creator, Jonathan Tropper, spoke on this move below:

Warrior is a show that simply refuses to die. Through platform and regime changes, the writers, producers, cast, crew, and our stunt team continued to make something powerful, relevant, and wildly unique. And now, thanks to Netflix, we’ve been given yet another lease on life, and I’m thrilled for everyone involved that millions more viewers around the world will discover it.

Warrior's Journey to Netflix

The move to Netflix marks an ongoing journey for Warrior to find a more permanent streaming home. Warrior season 1 initially premiered on Cinemax, where it stayed for season 2. In early 2020, it was announced that Cinemax was moving away from the Originals business, stripping Warrior from its network. The following year, the action show was picked up again by Max, who aired Warrior season 3 from June–August of 2023.

With this expanded visibility comes the possibility that Netflix could renew the show for a fourth season following its cancellation. Because of these changes, Warrior’s path as a series has been steeped with uncertainty. Star Andrew Koji expressed this ambiguity well when he said that the cast and crew had “no idea if [they were] going to go back” after season 3. At the time, Koji expressed the hopeful sentiment that there was a “very good chance” that Warrior could come back for season 4. Unfortunately, Warrior has now been canceled, so the actor’s optimism has been rendered moot.

The shift to Netflix, however, could be a more hopeful note for Warrior. As it moves to this streaming platform, Warrior will be able to reach a wider audience. The update does not make any guarantees as to this prospect, but a high-profile streaming home is good news for a potential Warrior season 4 given its fraught history.

Warrior's Future Possibilities

The cancellation of Warrior has left fans and the cast in uncertainty about the show's future. However, the move to Netflix brings hope for a potential renewal. The show's expanded visibility on the streaming platform could lead to a wider audience and a possible fourth season. While no guarantees have been made, the shift to Netflix is seen as a positive development for Warrior's future.
