The Big Picture

Zach Cregger's hit film Barbarian is getting a video game adaptation that will expand on the world he created.

Diversion3 Entertainment, renowned for their expertise in adapting horror games, has been selected to spearhead the development team for the Barbarian game. This highly-anticipated game will provide players with a captivating single-player narrative experience that seamlessly integrates with the storyline and characters of Cregger's film.

Whitest Kids U'Know star Zach Cregger made his directorial debut in 2022 with the successful horror film Barbarian. Now, just over a year later, a video game adaptation of the film is in the works. New Regency Pictures and Diversion3 Entertainment are collaborating on the project, with the intention of expanding on the world created by Cregger. While details about the game are scarce, it is good news that Diversion3, known for their work in bringing horror franchises to gaming, will be leading the development team. Unlike their previous projects, such as Evil Dead: The Game and Friday the 13th: The Game, which are multiplayer experiences, Barbarian will offer a single player narrative experience.

While specific details about the original plot remain unknown, executive producer Tim Hesse from Diversion3 hinted at the game's direct link to Cregger's film. "We're thrilled to partner with New Regency to expand upon the settings, characters, and creatures of Barbarian. The film not only successfully frightened audiences with its unexpected and horrifying twists, but it also established resilient characters thrust into terrifying circumstances." Yariv Milchan, Chairman and CEO of New Regency, expressed curiosity about how the immersive and interactive nature of a video game will amplify the terror of the film. "By expanding the Barbarian universe into the realm of gaming, we offer a fresh way to capture the horror that contributed to the film's success. We're excited to collaborate with the immensely talented team at Diversion3 Entertainment, enabling both new and existing fans to fully immerse themselves in this world."

In the chilling movie Barbarian, renters' worst nightmare comes to life when an ambitious young woman (Georgina Campbell) discovers that her rented accommodation, which she relies on for an important business trip, has been double booked. Despite her initial apprehension about sharing the space with a complete stranger (Bill Skarsgård), she decides to proceed with the stay. Little does she know, a series of unimaginable horrors await them beneath the temporary roof. Cregger skillfully assembles a talented cast, including horror veteran Justin Long, to breathe life into his original story alongside the remarkable duo of Campbell and Skarsgård.

Cregger, after the success of his first horror project, is now working on a new thriller called Weapons. This project, described as an interconnected multi-story horror epic, revolves around the mysterious disappearances of high school students in a small town, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The film has already secured notable names such as Pedro Pascal, known as the internet's dad, in a leading role. Renate Reinsve, star of The Worst Person in the World, will also be joining the cast.
