Valerie Bertinelli, after her divorce from Tom Vitale, has found love with writer Mike Goodnough.
The actress from One Day at a Time, who has a son named Wolfgang with her late ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, announced in March 2024 that she is dating someone "very special" for the first time since her split from Vitale in November 2021.
In an interview with USA Today, she expressed, "It's unlike any relationship that I've ever experienced with a man. I don't want to say too much, but I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have met him, because I wasn't expecting it!"
After two months of keeping her mystery man a secret, Goodnough confirmed through his Substack that he is dating Bertinelli and that they are very much in love.
"I am currently in a relationship with Valerie Bertinelli, and it still feels surreal to say that," Goodnough shared on his Hoarse Whisperings Substack in April 2024. Despite the unusual circumstances, their relationship feels natural and wonderful to him.

March 2024
On March 14, Bertinelli shared that she had started dating someone “very special” and that she didn’t expect to find love again after splitting from Vitale after 11 years.

In April 2024, she shared in an interview with USA Today that she had once planned to live out her days happily with her six cats and dog. However, meeting him was unexpected and she expressed gratitude for it. She mentioned that this connection was not something that could have happened in the past few years, making her feel incredibly fortunate.
Less than a month after Bertinelli shared that she had found a new partner, she excitedly talked about how she had developed feelings for him after meeting online.
“I’m in love,” she enthusiastically shared with People during an interview on April 1. “It's been a rollercoaster of emotions because I was determined that I would never fall in love again.”
Bertinelli shared that she had met Goodnough on Instagram several years ago and they had developed a friendly relationship.
"It started off as just a platonic connection, but there was a sense of familiarity that drew me to him," she explained. The actress mentioned that their relationship didn't turn romantic until they started talking on the phone earlier this year.
"It's amazing how comfortable I feel with him. It just feels right," Bertinelli expressed. "I found happiness on my own first, and then he came into my life."
A couple of weeks later, Bertinelli shared more about her relationship on April 15.
"He's really amazing. He may try to come off as complex and mysterious, but in reality, he is thoughtful, kind, and incredibly talented," she excitedly revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show. "He's a fantastic writer and he's absolutely gorgeous, like, really attractive. He's just my type."
Bertinelli went on to share that she met him in New York a month ago.
“I’m just gone,” she joked on the show.

On April 17, Goodnough finally confirmed that he was Bertinelli’s mystery man via his Hoarse Whisperings Substack.

Goodnough expressed his deep admiration for Valerie Bertinelli, referring to her as 'Honey' and feeling thankful for their relationship.
Goodnough also mentioned that he is aware their relationship will attract attention, but he is not worried about it.
"Being in a relationship with someone as accomplished and well-known as Valerie brings certain things," he said. "One of them is more attention. I've noticed a slight increase in signups for free subscriptions here on Substack. When people hear about someone, they naturally become curious and want to learn more. This has led to the growth of our community, which is a positive outcome."
