The Leaked Animations

A recent Genshin Impact leak has revealed unfinished combat animations for Xingqiu, confirming that HoYoverse changed the character's kit and sound effects. In the last week, leaks from early versions of Genshin Impact have appeared online, with one showing the scrapped combat animations for the five-star Catalyst wielder Klee. As it turned out, the developers had different ideas for some characters, which were never implemented in the game's initial version.

Along with introducing new events and weapons, Genshin Impact has been expanding its playable cast with characters in every version. These gacha banners have their own combat animations, including small emotes named idles, that set them apart from other units in Teyvat. For example, Xingqiu's animations show the character performing rapid sword attacks like fencers. She creates illusory sword rain and swings her signature weapon when she stands still for a short time.

Insights into Xingqiu's Beta Version

A Genshin Impact leak from UBatcha showcased scrapped animations for Xingqiu, confirming that the character originally had AoE Hydro damage in his respective kit. As it turns out, the developers once designed a powerful skill for Xingqiu that creates rain swords coming from the sky. From the looks of it, these rain swords were supposed to deal AoE Hydro damage to multiple targets. Another thing to note is that Xingqiu had more creepy sound effects, which many Genshin Impact players on Reddit think are giving the vibes of Evangelion. There is a strong chance that he was initially planned to be a five-star, considering his kit featured such powerful skills.

The character's normal, charged, and plunging attack animations remained nearly the same; however, his elemental skill had two charges and an additional upward slash that deals Hydro damage. It's safe to assume that the developers had different ideas for Xingqiu, though they were eventually scrapped.

Xingqiu's Role and Effectiveness

Genshin Impact's Xingqiu functions as an off-field DPS, providing his team with Hydro application in combat. Since his signature weapon, the Sacrificial Sword, gives an additional energy recharge, the four-star unit is a resilient choice for any composition. It's important to note that Xingqiu's damage output and effectiveness significantly increase when paired with Hu Tao, thanks to the Polearm user's ability to trigger the Vaporize reaction.

Due to being one of Genshin Impact's sword wielders, Xingqiu deals a reasonable amount of damage in close encounters. He has a balanced kit that delivers AoE damage and defensive effects, such as healing and resistance to interruption. The only downside to Xingqiu could be that his elemental skill has a long cooldown, which is no surprise considering he is a four-star unit.
